| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, The education of young Texans is a vital enterprise |
|---|
| 6 | 6 | | for every school in the Lone Star State, and Our Mother of Mercy |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | Parochial School in Houston has been dedicated to that worthy goal |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | for eight decades; and |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | WHEREAS, Opened in 1930, the institution was established to |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | provide schoolchildren in the Fifth Ward with a quality education |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | in a religious environment; in the first year, enrollment exceeded |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | 100, and soon the original two-story brick structure was outgrown; |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | in 1940, a new building was constructed, complete with high school |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | facilities; and |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | WHEREAS, The school currently serves 560 students in |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | kindergarten through ninth grade, under the able guidance of the |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | Sisters of the Holy Family and Father John B. Doyle; and |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | WHEREAS, Over the course of its rich history, Our Mother of |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | Mercy Parochial School has educated thousands of Fifth Ward |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | students and provided a foundation on which they could build |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | rewarding and fulfilling lives; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | Legislature hereby commend all those associated with Our Mother of |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | Mercy Parochial School for their efforts in behalf of the youth of |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | Houston and extend to them sincere best wishes for continued |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | success; and, be it further |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | prepared for the school as an expression of high regard by the Texas |
