H.R. No. 2292 R E S O L U T I O N WHEREAS, The education of young Texans is a vital enterprise for every school in the Lone Star State, and Our Mother of Mercy Parochial School in Houston has been dedicated to that worthy goal for eight decades; and WHEREAS, Opened in 1930, the institution was established to provide schoolchildren in the Fifth Ward with a quality education in a religious environment; in the first year, enrollment exceeded 100, and soon the original two-story brick structure was outgrown; in 1940, a new building was constructed, complete with high school facilities; and WHEREAS, The school currently serves 560 students in kindergarten through ninth grade, under the able guidance of the Sisters of the Holy Family and Father John B. Doyle; and WHEREAS, Over the course of its rich history, Our Mother of Mercy Parochial School has educated thousands of Fifth Ward students and provided a foundation on which they could build rewarding and fulfilling lives; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas Legislature hereby commend all those associated with Our Mother of Mercy Parochial School for their efforts in behalf of the youth of Houston and extend to them sincere best wishes for continued success; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for the school as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
