44 R E S O L U T I O N
55 WHEREAS, The family and friends of U.S. Army Corporal Juan
66 Manuel Lopez, Jr., of San Antonio suffered an immeasurable loss
77 with his death in Iraq on August 13, 2007, at the age of 23; and
88 WHEREAS, Assigned to the 5th Battalion, 82nd Field Artillery
99 Regiment, 4th Brigade Combat Team, 1st Cavalry Division, out of
1010 Fort Bliss, Corporal Lopez died of wounds sustained when his
1111 vehicle was struck by a roadside bomb in Qayyarah, Iraq; he was
1212 posthumously awarded the Purple Heart and the Bronze Star; and
1313 WHEREAS, Juan Lopez was born in Mt. Holly, New Jersey, on
1414 August 9, 1984, to Juan Manuel Lopez, Sr., and Tina Marie Murph
1515 Criss; raised in Florence, South Carolina, he attended South
1616 Florence High School and graduated from Poynor Adult and Community
1717 Education Center in 2005; and
1818 WHEREAS, A man of strong religious faith, Corporal Lopez was
1919 a member of Faith Kingdom Builders Outreaching Ministries in
2020 Florence, and he was also affiliated with the Inner Court Apostolic
2121 Church in Jesus Christ in Florence and Faith Mission Outreach in
2222 Texas; and
2323 WHEREAS, Exemplifying the highest ideals of the U.S. armed
2424 forces, Juan Lopez inspired others with his fortitude and courage,
2525 and although his passing has left a void in the lives of his loved
2626 ones, they will forever carry their memories of this heroic young
2727 soldier close in their hearts; now, therefore, be it
2828 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas
2929 Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of U.S. Army Corporal
3030 Juan Lopez, Jr., and extend sincere condolences to the members of
3131 his family: to his mother, Tina Marie Criss, and her husband,
3232 Timothy; to his father, Juan Manuel Lopez, Sr., and his wife,
3333 Gloria; to his sister, Cassandra Lopez; to his grandparents, Bertha
3434 B. Gamble, and her husband, Ricky, Herbert L. Murph, Maria Lopez,
3535 and Martha James; to his great-grandmothers, Providencia Trinidad
3636 and Anniedell Haynesworth; to his uncles, Bishop Otis L. Terrell,
3737 Jr., Marc Stratton, Herbert L. Murph, Jr., Lavell D. Murph, and
3838 Osvaldo Oyola; to his aunts, Shontell D. Murph and Lissette Lopez;
3939 to his great uncle, Angel Garcia; and to his other relatives and
4040 friends; and, be it further
4141 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
4242 prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of
4343 Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Juan Manuel
4444 Lopez, Jr.
