6 | 6 | | Manuel Lopez, Jr., of San Antonio suffered an immeasurable loss |

7 | 7 | | with his death in Iraq on August 13, 2007, at the age of 23; and |

8 | 8 | | WHEREAS, Assigned to the 5th Battalion, 82nd Field Artillery |

9 | 9 | | Regiment, 4th Brigade Combat Team, 1st Cavalry Division, out of |
---|
10 | 10 | | Fort Bliss, Corporal Lopez died of wounds sustained when his |
---|
11 | 11 | | vehicle was struck by a roadside bomb in Qayyarah, Iraq; he was |
---|
12 | 12 | | posthumously awarded the Purple Heart and the Bronze Star; and |
---|
13 | 13 | | WHEREAS, Juan Lopez was born in Mt. Holly, New Jersey, on |

14 | 14 | | August 9, 1984, to Juan Manuel Lopez, Sr., and Tina Marie Murph |
---|
15 | 15 | | Criss; raised in Florence, South Carolina, he attended South |
---|
16 | 16 | | Florence High School and graduated from Poynor Adult and Community |

17 | 17 | | Education Center in 2005; and |
---|
18 | 18 | | WHEREAS, A man of strong religious faith, Corporal Lopez was |
---|
19 | 19 | | a member of Faith Kingdom Builders Outreaching Ministries in |
---|
20 | 20 | | Florence, and he was also affiliated with the Inner Court Apostolic |
---|
21 | 21 | | Church in Jesus Christ in Florence and Faith Mission Outreach in |
---|
22 | 22 | | Texas; and |
---|
23 | 23 | | WHEREAS, Exemplifying the highest ideals of the U.S. armed |
---|
24 | 24 | | forces, Juan Lopez inspired others with his fortitude and courage, |
---|
25 | 25 | | and although his passing has left a void in the lives of his loved |
---|
26 | 26 | | ones, they will forever carry their memories of this heroic young |
---|
27 | 27 | | soldier close in their hearts; now, therefore, be it |
---|
28 | 28 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas |

29 | 29 | | Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of U.S. Army Corporal |
