 R E S O L U T I O N
 WHEREAS, The family and friends of U.S. Army Corporal Juan
 Manuel Lopez, Jr., of San Antonio suffered an immeasurable loss
 with his death in Iraq on August 13, 2007, at the age of 23; and
 WHEREAS, Assigned to the 5th Battalion, 82nd Field Artillery
 Regiment, 4th Brigade Combat Team, 1st Cavalry Division, out of
 Fort Bliss, Corporal Lopez died of wounds sustained when his
 vehicle was struck by a roadside bomb in Qayyarah, Iraq; he was
 posthumously awarded the Purple Heart and the Bronze Star; and
 WHEREAS, Juan Lopez was born in Mt. Holly, New Jersey, on
 August 9, 1984, to Juan Manuel Lopez, Sr., and Tina Marie Murph
 Criss; raised in Florence, South Carolina, he attended South
 Florence High School and graduated from Poynor Adult and Community
 Education Center in 2005; and
 WHEREAS, A man of strong religious faith, Corporal Lopez was
 a member of Faith Kingdom Builders Outreaching Ministries in
 Florence, and he was also affiliated with the Inner Court Apostolic
 Church in Jesus Christ in Florence and Faith Mission Outreach in
 Texas; and
 WHEREAS, Exemplifying the highest ideals of the U.S. armed
 forces, Juan Lopez inspired others with his fortitude and courage,
 and although his passing has left a void in the lives of his loved
 ones, they will forever carry their memories of this heroic young
 soldier close in their hearts; now, therefore, be it
 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas
 Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of U.S. Army Corporal
 Juan Lopez, Jr., and extend sincere condolences to the members of
 his family: to his mother, Tina Marie Criss, and her husband,
 Timothy; to his father, Juan Manuel Lopez, Sr., and his wife,
 Gloria; to his sister, Cassandra Lopez; to his grandparents, Bertha
 B. Gamble, and her husband, Ricky, Herbert L. Murph, Maria Lopez,
 and Martha James; to his great-grandmothers, Providencia Trinidad
 and Anniedell Haynesworth; to his uncles, Bishop Otis L. Terrell,
 Jr., Marc Stratton, Herbert L. Murph, Jr., Lavell D. Murph, and
 Osvaldo Oyola; to his aunts, Shontell D. Murph and Lissette Lopez;
 to his great uncle, Angel Garcia; and to his other relatives and
 friends; and, be it further
 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
 prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of
 Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Juan Manuel
 Lopez, Jr.
