5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, Words cannot convey the heartache felt at the loss |

6 | 6 | | of U.S. Army Sergeant Jaime Gonzalez, Jr., of Austin, who died in |

7 | 7 | | Afghanistan on August 3, 2008, at the age of 40; and |
---|
8 | 8 | | WHEREAS, A member of the 436th Chemical Company of the Texas |
---|
9 | 9 | | Army National Guard out of Laredo, Sergeant Gonzalez was killed in |
---|
10 | 10 | | Kabul, Afghanistan, when his vehicle was struck by an improvised |
---|
11 | 11 | | explosive device; and |
---|
12 | 12 | | WHEREAS, Jaime Gonzalez, Jr., was born in El Paso; answering |
---|
13 | 13 | | his nation's call to duty, he joined the U.S. Navy in 1989 and |
---|
14 | 14 | | served for six years, and then joined the Navy Reserves; he joined |
---|
15 | 15 | | the National Guard in 2006 as a private and was promoted to |
---|
16 | 16 | | specialist; called to active duty the following year, he trained at |
---|
17 | 17 | | Fort Bragg before deploying to Camp Eggers in Afghanistan; he was |
---|
18 | 18 | | promoted to the rank of sergeant posthumously; and |
---|
19 | 19 | | WHEREAS, Americans owe a profound debt of gratitude to our |
---|
20 | 20 | | nation's servicemen and servicewomen, whose courageous efforts and |
---|
21 | 21 | | enormous sacrifices are deserving of their fellow citizens' deepest |
---|
22 | 22 | | respect and gratitude, and although the passing of Sergeant |
---|
23 | 23 | | Gonzalez leaves a void in the lives of his loved ones, they will |
---|
24 | 24 | | forever carry their memories of this heroic Texan close in their |
---|
25 | 25 | | hearts; now, therefore, be it |

26 | 26 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas |

27 | 27 | | Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Sergeant Jaime |
