55 WHEREAS, Words cannot convey the heartache felt at the loss
66 of U.S. Army Sergeant Jaime Gonzalez, Jr., of Austin, who died in
77 Afghanistan on August 3, 2008, at the age of 40; and
88 WHEREAS, A member of the 436th Chemical Company of the Texas
99 Army National Guard out of Laredo, Sergeant Gonzalez was killed in
1010 Kabul, Afghanistan, when his vehicle was struck by an improvised
1111 explosive device; and
1212 WHEREAS, Jaime Gonzalez, Jr., was born in El Paso; answering
1313 his nation's call to duty, he joined the U.S. Navy in 1989 and
1414 served for six years, and then joined the Navy Reserves; he joined
1515 the National Guard in 2006 as a private and was promoted to
1616 specialist; called to active duty the following year, he trained at
1717 Fort Bragg before deploying to Camp Eggers in Afghanistan; he was
1818 promoted to the rank of sergeant posthumously; and
1919 WHEREAS, Americans owe a profound debt of gratitude to our
2020 nation's servicemen and servicewomen, whose courageous efforts and
2121 enormous sacrifices are deserving of their fellow citizens' deepest
2222 respect and gratitude, and although the passing of Sergeant
2323 Gonzalez leaves a void in the lives of his loved ones, they will
2424 forever carry their memories of this heroic Texan close in their
2525 hearts; now, therefore, be it
2626 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas
2727 Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Sergeant Jaime
2828 Gonzalez, Jr., and extend sincere condolences to the members of his
2929 family: to his wife, Erica Gonzalez; to his parents, Jaime
3030 Gonzalez, Sr., and Maria M. Gonzalez; to his son, Jaime Ricardo
3131 Gonzalez III; to his daughter, Samantha Elizabeth Gonzalez; to his
3232 stepsons, Jacob Villarreal, Christopher Villarreal, and Robert
3333 Garcia; to his stepdaughter, Missy Villarreal; to his brothers,
3434 Robert Gonzalez and Demetrio Gonzalez; to his sisters, Belen
3535 Gonzalez, Cynthia Ann Aleman, and Flower "Flor" Providence; and to
3636 his other relatives and friends; and, be it further
3737 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
3838 prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of
3939 Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Jaime
4040 Gonzalez, Jr.
