 R E S O L U T I O N
 WHEREAS, Words cannot convey the heartache felt at the loss
 of U.S. Army Sergeant Jaime Gonzalez, Jr., of Austin, who died in
 Afghanistan on August 3, 2008, at the age of 40; and
 WHEREAS, A member of the 436th Chemical Company of the Texas
 Army National Guard out of Laredo, Sergeant Gonzalez was killed in
 Kabul, Afghanistan, when his vehicle was struck by an improvised
 explosive device; and
 WHEREAS, Jaime Gonzalez, Jr., was born in El Paso; answering
 his nation's call to duty, he joined the U.S. Navy in 1989 and
 served for six years, and then joined the Navy Reserves; he joined
 the National Guard in 2006 as a private and was promoted to
 specialist; called to active duty the following year, he trained at
 Fort Bragg before deploying to Camp Eggers in Afghanistan; he was
 promoted to the rank of sergeant posthumously; and
 WHEREAS, Americans owe a profound debt of gratitude to our
 nation's servicemen and servicewomen, whose courageous efforts and
 enormous sacrifices are deserving of their fellow citizens' deepest
 respect and gratitude, and although the passing of Sergeant
 Gonzalez leaves a void in the lives of his loved ones, they will
 forever carry their memories of this heroic Texan close in their
 hearts; now, therefore, be it
 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas
 Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Sergeant Jaime
 Gonzalez, Jr., and extend sincere condolences to the members of his
 family: to his wife, Erica Gonzalez; to his parents, Jaime
 Gonzalez, Sr., and Maria M. Gonzalez; to his son, Jaime Ricardo
 Gonzalez III; to his daughter, Samantha Elizabeth Gonzalez; to his
 stepsons, Jacob Villarreal, Christopher Villarreal, and Robert
 Garcia; to his stepdaughter, Missy Villarreal; to his brothers,
 Robert Gonzalez and Demetrio Gonzalez; to his sisters, Belen
 Gonzalez, Cynthia Ann Aleman, and Flower "Flor" Providence; and to
 his other relatives and friends; and, be it further
 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
 prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of
 Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Jaime
 Gonzalez, Jr.
