44 R E S O L U T I O N
55 WHEREAS, Family and friends are mourning the untimely loss
66 of United States Army Sergeant First Class Justin S. Monschke, who
77 died on October 14, 2007, at the age of 28; and
88 WHEREAS, A weapons sergeant with the Special Forces, Sergeant
99 Monschke was assigned to Company B, 2nd Battalion, 3rd Special
1010 Forces Group (Airborne), based at Fort Bragg in North Carolina; he
1111 was mortally wounded while conducting combat operations in Iraq;
1212 and
1313 WHEREAS, He was born and raised in Krum and played baseball
1414 and ran with the cross-country team in high school; he fulfilled a
1515 long-held dream when he enlisted in the army during his junior year,
1616 and he left for boot camp a week after his graduation from Krum High
1717 School in 1997; and
1818 WHEREAS, Sergeant Monschke trained extensively and in 2002,
1919 he earned the green beret; he served as an instructor at the U.S.
2020 Army Ranger Training Battalion in Georgia and as a squad leader and
2121 observer/controller at the Joint Readiness Training Center at Fort
2222 Polk; and
2323 WHEREAS, Among the numerous awards conferred on Sergeant
2424 Monschke were two Army Commendation Medals, three Army Achievement
2525 Medals, three Good Conduct Medals, the National Defense Service
2626 Medal, and the Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal; and
2727 WHEREAS, This beloved son, husband, and father brought joy
2828 into the lives of his family and many friends; although his mission
2929 in Iraq was a hazardous one, Sergeant Monschke took its dangers in
3030 stride and performed his mission with exemplary dedication and
3131 professionalism; his unwavering integrity and devotion to this
3232 country reflected the highest ideals of the Special Forces, and his
3333 fellow citizens owe him a debt of gratitude that the passage of time
3434 can never diminish; now, therefore, be it
3535 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas
3636 Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of United States Army
3737 Sergeant First Class Justin S. Monschke and extend sincere sympathy
3838 to the members of his family: to his wife, Melissa; to his
3939 daughter, Ashley; to his son, Ryan; to his father, Larry Monschke;
4040 to his mother, Patty Jett; to his stepson, Dylan; and to his other
4141 relatives and friends; and, be it further
4242 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
4343 prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of
4444 Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Justin S.
4545 Monschke.
