55 WHEREAS, Words cannot adequately express the heartache felt
66 at the loss of Sergeant Omar Leonardo Mora of Texas City, who died
77 while bravely serving this nation in Iraq on September 10, 2007, at
88 the age of 28; and
99 WHEREAS, Sergeant Mora was on his second tour of duty with the
1010 82nd Airborne Division when he was mortally wounded in a vehicle
1111 accident in Baghdad; and
1212 WHEREAS, Born in Ecuador, Omar Mora came to the United States
1313 at the age of two and grew up in Texas City; he graduated from La
1414 Marque High School and went on to attend the College of the
1515 Mainland; and
1616 WHEREAS, A loving husband, father, son, and brother, Sergeant
1717 Mora will be remembered for his cheerful nature, his zest for life,
1818 and his strong desire to help others; for relaxation in his leisure
1919 time, he enjoyed playing soccer, working on cars, and attending
2020 functions at his church, St. Mary of the Miraculous Medal; and
2121 WHEREAS, Sergeant Mora was drawn to the military out of a
2222 sense of duty, enlisting to serve the United States before he had
2323 even been granted citizenship; he was an American who fought to
2424 defend the rights and privileges of all citizens of his adopted
2525 country, including the freedom to openly and passionately express
2626 one's personal beliefs; and
2727 WHEREAS, Through his unfaltering devotion to duty and honor,
2828 Sergeant Mora embodied the highest ideals of the United States
2929 armed forces, and his immeasurable sacrifice is one that the
3030 passage of time can never diminish; now, therefore, be it
3131 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas
3232 Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Sergeant Omar
3333 Leonardo Mora and extend sincere sympathy to the members of his
3434 family: to his wife, Christa; to his daughter, Jordan; to his mother
3535 and stepfather, Olga and Robert Capetillo; to his sister, Erica
3636 Capetillo; to his brother, Roger Mora, and his wife, Eve; and to all
3737 who mourn the passing of this beloved young man; and, be it further
3838 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
3939 prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of
4040 Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Omar
4141 Leonardo Mora.
