| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, Words cannot adequately express the heartache felt |

| 6 | 6 | | at the loss of Sergeant Omar Leonardo Mora of Texas City, who died |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | while bravely serving this nation in Iraq on September 10, 2007, at |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | the age of 28; and |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | WHEREAS, Sergeant Mora was on his second tour of duty with the |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | 82nd Airborne Division when he was mortally wounded in a vehicle |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | accident in Baghdad; and |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | WHEREAS, Born in Ecuador, Omar Mora came to the United States |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | at the age of two and grew up in Texas City; he graduated from La |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | Marque High School and went on to attend the College of the |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | Mainland; and |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | WHEREAS, A loving husband, father, son, and brother, Sergeant |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | Mora will be remembered for his cheerful nature, his zest for life, |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | and his strong desire to help others; for relaxation in his leisure |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | time, he enjoyed playing soccer, working on cars, and attending |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | functions at his church, St. Mary of the Miraculous Medal; and |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | WHEREAS, Sergeant Mora was drawn to the military out of a |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | sense of duty, enlisting to serve the United States before he had |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | even been granted citizenship; he was an American who fought to |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | defend the rights and privileges of all citizens of his adopted |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | country, including the freedom to openly and passionately express |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | one's personal beliefs; and |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | WHEREAS, Through his unfaltering devotion to duty and honor, |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | Sergeant Mora embodied the highest ideals of the United States |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | armed forces, and his immeasurable sacrifice is one that the |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | passage of time can never diminish; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Sergeant Omar |
|---|
| 33 | 33 | | Leonardo Mora and extend sincere sympathy to the members of his |
|---|
| 34 | 34 | | family: to his wife, Christa; to his daughter, Jordan; to his mother |
|---|
| 35 | 35 | | and stepfather, Olga and Robert Capetillo; to his sister, Erica |
|---|
| 36 | 36 | | Capetillo; to his brother, Roger Mora, and his wife, Eve; and to all |
|---|
| 37 | 37 | | who mourn the passing of this beloved young man; and, be it further |

| 38 | 38 | | RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |

| 39 | 39 | | prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of |
|---|
| 40 | 40 | | Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Omar |
