H.R. No. 2312 R E S O L U T I O N WHEREAS, Words cannot adequately express the heartache felt at the loss of Sergeant Omar Leonardo Mora of Texas City, who died while bravely serving this nation in Iraq on September 10, 2007, at the age of 28; and WHEREAS, Sergeant Mora was on his second tour of duty with the 82nd Airborne Division when he was mortally wounded in a vehicle accident in Baghdad; and WHEREAS, Born in Ecuador, Omar Mora came to the United States at the age of two and grew up in Texas City; he graduated from La Marque High School and went on to attend the College of the Mainland; and WHEREAS, A loving husband, father, son, and brother, Sergeant Mora will be remembered for his cheerful nature, his zest for life, and his strong desire to help others; for relaxation in his leisure time, he enjoyed playing soccer, working on cars, and attending functions at his church, St. Mary of the Miraculous Medal; and WHEREAS, Sergeant Mora was drawn to the military out of a sense of duty, enlisting to serve the United States before he had even been granted citizenship; he was an American who fought to defend the rights and privileges of all citizens of his adopted country, including the freedom to openly and passionately express one's personal beliefs; and WHEREAS, Through his unfaltering devotion to duty and honor, Sergeant Mora embodied the highest ideals of the United States armed forces, and his immeasurable sacrifice is one that the passage of time can never diminish; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Sergeant Omar Leonardo Mora and extend sincere sympathy to the members of his family: to his wife, Christa; to his daughter, Jordan; to his mother and stepfather, Olga and Robert Capetillo; to his sister, Erica Capetillo; to his brother, Roger Mora, and his wife, Eve; and to all who mourn the passing of this beloved young man; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Omar Leonardo Mora.
