44 R E S O L U T I O N
55 WHEREAS, Family and friends are mourning the untimely loss of
66 United States Army Staff Sergeant Jason Logan Brown of Magnolia,
77 who died in Iraq on April 17, 2008, at the age of 29; and
88 WHEREAS, An engineer sergeant with the Special Forces, Jason
99 Brown was assigned to Company B, 3rd Battalion, 5th Special Forces
1010 Group (Airborne), based at Fort Campbell in Kentucky; he was
1111 serving his second tour of duty in Iraq when he was mortally wounded
1212 while conducting combat operations in Sama Village; and
1313 WHEREAS, This valiant soldier was born on September 30, 1978,
1414 in Dallas and graduated from DeSoto High School in 1997; after
1515 attending Cedar Valley College, he received a bachelor's degree in
1616 criminal justice from Sam Houston State University in 2002; and
1717 WHEREAS, Jason Brown fulfilled a long-held dream when he
1818 enlisted in the army as a candidate for the Special Forces on March
1919 25, 2003; he earned the green beret the following year, and his
2020 service in that elite force was a source of great pride to both
2121 Sergeant Brown and his family; and
2222 WHEREAS, Among the numerous awards conferred on Sergeant
2323 Brown were the Bronze Star, the Purple Heart, the Meritorious
2424 Service Medal, and the Army Commendation Medal; and
2525 WHEREAS, Beloved for his generosity, his exuberance, and his
2626 irrepressible sense of humor, Jason Brown brought joy into the
2727 lives of his family and many friends; in his free time, he relished
2828 spending time outdoors and especially enjoyed hunting, fishing, and
2929 working in his yard; and
3030 WHEREAS, Although his mission in Iraq was a hazardous one,
3131 Sergeant Brown took its dangers in stride and performed his mission
3232 with exemplary dedication and professionalism; his unwavering
3333 integrity and devotion to this country reflected the highest ideals
3434 of the Special Forces, and his fellow citizens owe him a debt of
3535 gratitude that the passage of time can never diminish; now,
3636 therefore, be it
3737 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas
3838 Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of United States Army
3939 Staff Sergeant Jason Logan Brown and extend sincere sympathy to the
4040 members of his family: to his daughter, Alyssa Gomez; to his
4141 parents, Rosemary and James C. Brown; to his sister and her husband,
4242 Lindsey and Dallas Lam; to his grandmother, Emma Lee Brown; and to
4343 his other relatives and friends; and, be it further
4444 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
4545 prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of
4646 Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Jason
4747 Brown.
