5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, Family and friends are mourning the untimely loss of |

6 | 6 | | United States Army Staff Sergeant Jason Logan Brown of Magnolia, |
---|
7 | 7 | | who died in Iraq on April 17, 2008, at the age of 29; and |
---|
8 | 8 | | WHEREAS, An engineer sergeant with the Special Forces, Jason |
---|
9 | 9 | | Brown was assigned to Company B, 3rd Battalion, 5th Special Forces |
---|
10 | 10 | | Group (Airborne), based at Fort Campbell in Kentucky; he was |
---|
11 | 11 | | serving his second tour of duty in Iraq when he was mortally wounded |
---|
12 | 12 | | while conducting combat operations in Sama Village; and |
---|
13 | 13 | | WHEREAS, This valiant soldier was born on September 30, 1978, |
---|
14 | 14 | | in Dallas and graduated from DeSoto High School in 1997; after |
---|
15 | 15 | | attending Cedar Valley College, he received a bachelor's degree in |
---|
16 | 16 | | criminal justice from Sam Houston State University in 2002; and |
---|
17 | 17 | | WHEREAS, Jason Brown fulfilled a long-held dream when he |
---|
18 | 18 | | enlisted in the army as a candidate for the Special Forces on March |
---|
19 | 19 | | 25, 2003; he earned the green beret the following year, and his |
---|
20 | 20 | | service in that elite force was a source of great pride to both |
---|
21 | 21 | | Sergeant Brown and his family; and |
---|
22 | 22 | | WHEREAS, Among the numerous awards conferred on Sergeant |
---|
23 | 23 | | Brown were the Bronze Star, the Purple Heart, the Meritorious |
---|
24 | 24 | | Service Medal, and the Army Commendation Medal; and |
---|
25 | 25 | | WHEREAS, Beloved for his generosity, his exuberance, and his |
---|
26 | 26 | | irrepressible sense of humor, Jason Brown brought joy into the |
---|
27 | 27 | | lives of his family and many friends; in his free time, he relished |
---|
28 | 28 | | spending time outdoors and especially enjoyed hunting, fishing, and |
---|
29 | 29 | | working in his yard; and |
---|
30 | 30 | | WHEREAS, Although his mission in Iraq was a hazardous one, |
---|
31 | 31 | | Sergeant Brown took its dangers in stride and performed his mission |
---|
32 | 32 | | with exemplary dedication and professionalism; his unwavering |
---|
33 | 33 | | integrity and devotion to this country reflected the highest ideals |
---|
34 | 34 | | of the Special Forces, and his fellow citizens owe him a debt of |
---|
35 | 35 | | gratitude that the passage of time can never diminish; now, |
---|
36 | 36 | | therefore, be it |

37 | 37 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas |

38 | 38 | | Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of United States Army |
---|
39 | 39 | | Staff Sergeant Jason Logan Brown and extend sincere sympathy to the |

40 | 40 | | members of his family: to his daughter, Alyssa Gomez; to his |

41 | 41 | | parents, Rosemary and James C. Brown; to his sister and her husband, |

42 | 42 | | Lindsey and Dallas Lam; to his grandmother, Emma Lee Brown; and to |

43 | 43 | | his other relatives and friends; and, be it further |
