H.R. No. 2333 R E S O L U T I O N WHEREAS, Family and friends are mourning the untimely loss of United States Army Staff Sergeant Jason Logan Brown of Magnolia, who died in Iraq on April 17, 2008, at the age of 29; and WHEREAS, An engineer sergeant with the Special Forces, Jason Brown was assigned to Company B, 3rd Battalion, 5th Special Forces Group (Airborne), based at Fort Campbell in Kentucky; he was serving his second tour of duty in Iraq when he was mortally wounded while conducting combat operations in Sama Village; and WHEREAS, This valiant soldier was born on September 30, 1978, in Dallas and graduated from DeSoto High School in 1997; after attending Cedar Valley College, he received a bachelor's degree in criminal justice from Sam Houston State University in 2002; and WHEREAS, Jason Brown fulfilled a long-held dream when he enlisted in the army as a candidate for the Special Forces on March 25, 2003; he earned the green beret the following year, and his service in that elite force was a source of great pride to both Sergeant Brown and his family; and WHEREAS, Among the numerous awards conferred on Sergeant Brown were the Bronze Star, the Purple Heart, the Meritorious Service Medal, and the Army Commendation Medal; and WHEREAS, Beloved for his generosity, his exuberance, and his irrepressible sense of humor, Jason Brown brought joy into the lives of his family and many friends; in his free time, he relished spending time outdoors and especially enjoyed hunting, fishing, and working in his yard; and WHEREAS, Although his mission in Iraq was a hazardous one, Sergeant Brown took its dangers in stride and performed his mission with exemplary dedication and professionalism; his unwavering integrity and devotion to this country reflected the highest ideals of the Special Forces, and his fellow citizens owe him a debt of gratitude that the passage of time can never diminish; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of United States Army Staff Sergeant Jason Logan Brown and extend sincere sympathy to the members of his family: to his daughter, Alyssa Gomez; to his parents, Rosemary and James C. Brown; to his sister and her husband, Lindsey and Dallas Lam; to his grandmother, Emma Lee Brown; and to his other relatives and friends; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Jason Brown.
