| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, Bonnie Bibeau has been named the 2009 Teacher of the |

| 6 | 6 | | Year at Carnegie Vanguard High School, and she was one of six |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | finalists for the Houston Independent School District Secondary |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | Teacher of the Year award; and |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | WHEREAS, A graduate of Texas A&M University, Ms. Bibeau |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | majored in theater and English and began her career at Carnegie |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | Vanguard as an English teacher; she went on to join the fine arts |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | department as a member of the theater faculty and assumed |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | leadership of the Carnegie Vanguard Thespian Society; and |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | WHEREAS, This caring educator has dedicated herself to |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | providing quality instruction in theater practices and to |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | developing a comprehensive drama program at the school; students |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | are challenged to produce two full-length plays and participate |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | annually in UIL one-act play competition; Ms. Bibeau encourages |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | students to write original dramas and has worked to establish |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | connections with the Alley Theatre's Education and Community |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | Engagement program and with other community theater organizations; |
|---|

| 23 | 23 | | WHEREAS, Deeply committed to her students, Ms. Bibeau teaches |

| 24 | 24 | | more than 80 students in classroom settings and in theatrical |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | productions, and she endeavors to give them individual attention to |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | enhance their learning experience; in addition to her |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | responsibilities at Carnegie Vanguard, Ms. Bibeau gives generously |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | of her time and talents to the wider community by teaching about |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | environmental concerns in the Houston Zoo's Wild Winks overnight |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | events; and |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | WHEREAS, Fine arts education helps awaken in students |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | creativity, innovation, and cultural understanding that will serve |
|---|
| 33 | 33 | | them well in the future as they strive to realize their full |
|---|
| 34 | 34 | | potential as happy, productive members of society, and Bonnie |
|---|
| 35 | 35 | | Bibeau's contributions as an educator for the past five years have |

| 36 | 36 | | been of inestimable value; now, therefore, be it |

| 37 | 37 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas |

| 38 | 38 | | Legislature hereby congratulate Bonnie Bibeau on being named the |

| 39 | 39 | | 2009 Teacher of the Year for Carnegie Vanguard High School and on |

| 40 | 40 | | her selection as a finalist for Secondary Teacher of the Year by the |

| 41 | 41 | | Houston Independent School District and extend to her sincere best |
