H.R. No. 2360
R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, Bonnie Bibeau has been named the 2009 Teacher of the
Year at Carnegie Vanguard High School, and she was one of six
finalists for the Houston Independent School District Secondary
Teacher of the Year award; and
WHEREAS, A graduate of Texas A&M University, Ms. Bibeau
majored in theater and English and began her career at Carnegie
Vanguard as an English teacher; she went on to join the fine arts
department as a member of the theater faculty and assumed
leadership of the Carnegie Vanguard Thespian Society; and
WHEREAS, This caring educator has dedicated herself to
providing quality instruction in theater practices and to
developing a comprehensive drama program at the school; students
are challenged to produce two full-length plays and participate
annually in UIL one-act play competition; Ms. Bibeau encourages
students to write original dramas and has worked to establish
connections with the Alley Theatre's Education and Community
Engagement program and with other community theater organizations;
and
WHEREAS, Deeply committed to her students, Ms. Bibeau teaches
more than 80 students in classroom settings and in theatrical
productions, and she endeavors to give them individual attention to
enhance their learning experience; in addition to her
responsibilities at Carnegie Vanguard, Ms. Bibeau gives generously
of her time and talents to the wider community by teaching about
environmental concerns in the Houston Zoo's Wild Winks overnight
events; and
WHEREAS, Fine arts education helps awaken in students
creativity, innovation, and cultural understanding that will serve
them well in the future as they strive to realize their full
potential as happy, productive members of society, and Bonnie
Bibeau's contributions as an educator for the past five years have
been of inestimable value; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas
Legislature hereby congratulate Bonnie Bibeau on being named the
2009 Teacher of the Year for Carnegie Vanguard High School and on
her selection as a finalist for Secondary Teacher of the Year by the
Houston Independent School District and extend to her sincere best
wishes for continued success with her important work; and, be it
further
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
prepared for Ms. Bibeau as an expression of high regard by the Texas
House of Representatives.
