| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, Beginning another notable chapter in his public |

| 6 | 6 | | service career, the Honorable Julian Castro was elected mayor of |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | San Antonio on May 9, 2009; and |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | WHEREAS, A native of the Alamo City, Mr. Castro graduated |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | with honors and distinction from Stanford University and went on to |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | earn his J.D. from Harvard Law School before establishing a civil |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | litigation practice in San Antonio; in addition to pursuing his |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | chosen vocation, he has shared his knowledge and expertise with |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | students at The University of Texas at San Antonio, Trinity |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | University, and St. Mary's University; and |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | WHEREAS, Mr. Castro was elected to represent District 7 on |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | the San Antonio City Council in 2001; during his tenure in office, |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | he championed a vision of economic growth and accountable |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | government, ably guiding the city with an eye to the future; he has |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | further distinguished himself as a member of the board of San |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | Antonio Urban Ministries, the Family Service Association of San |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | Antonio, and the Clear Channel San Antonio Advisory Board; and |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | WHEREAS, This accomplished civic leader is supported in all |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | his endeavors by his wife, Erica Lira Castro, and the couple take |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | immense pride in the newest addition to their family, their |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | daughter Carina Victoria, who was born in March; and |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | WHEREAS, For the past eight years, Julian Castro has worked |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | to improve the quality of life for his fellow citizens, who will |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | continue to benefit from his vision and leadership in his new role |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | as mayor; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas |

| 31 | 31 | | Legislature hereby honor Mayor-Elect Julian Castro for his |

| 32 | 32 | | exemplary public service and extend to him sincere best wishes for |
