H.R. No. 2389 R E S O L U T I O N WHEREAS, Beginning another notable chapter in his public service career, the Honorable Julian Castro was elected mayor of San Antonio on May 9, 2009; and WHEREAS, A native of the Alamo City, Mr. Castro graduated with honors and distinction from Stanford University and went on to earn his J.D. from Harvard Law School before establishing a civil litigation practice in San Antonio; in addition to pursuing his chosen vocation, he has shared his knowledge and expertise with students at The University of Texas at San Antonio, Trinity University, and St. Mary's University; and WHEREAS, Mr. Castro was elected to represent District 7 on the San Antonio City Council in 2001; during his tenure in office, he championed a vision of economic growth and accountable government, ably guiding the city with an eye to the future; he has further distinguished himself as a member of the board of San Antonio Urban Ministries, the Family Service Association of San Antonio, and the Clear Channel San Antonio Advisory Board; and WHEREAS, This accomplished civic leader is supported in all his endeavors by his wife, Erica Lira Castro, and the couple take immense pride in the newest addition to their family, their daughter Carina Victoria, who was born in March; and WHEREAS, For the past eight years, Julian Castro has worked to improve the quality of life for his fellow citizens, who will continue to benefit from his vision and leadership in his new role as mayor; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas Legislature hereby honor Mayor-Elect Julian Castro for his exemplary public service and extend to him sincere best wishes for continued success with his important work; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for Mayor-Elect Castro as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
