| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, Balch Springs Mayor Carrie F. Gordon was elected to |
|---|
| 6 | 6 | | office on May 9, 2009, and it is indeed fitting to recognize her |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | many accomplishments at this time; and |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | WHEREAS, An urban planner, Mayor Gordon graduated from Bishop |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | College and holds a master's degree in political economy from The |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | University of Texas at Dallas and a doctorate in administration and |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | management from Columbia Pacific University; in the course of more |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | than two decades with the City of Dallas, she has worked on a wide |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | array of planning and zoning issues; collaborating closely with |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | citizens, attorneys, developers, business and property owners, |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | public agencies, and other stakeholders, she wrote 10 neighborhood |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | plans and area studies; she is currently involved with the |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | development and revision of city ordinances and serves as a liaison |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | on three special committees; and |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | WHEREAS, This esteemed Texan has made many valuable |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | contributions to Balch Springs as a member of the Planning and |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | Zoning Commission and the Charter Review Commission; she assisted |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | the city's staff in updating the municipal master plan and was |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | instrumental in establishing the Zoning Ordinance Review Committee |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | and in the development of the Balch Springs East annexation area |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | plan; she is also a member of the Balch Springs Chamber of Commerce, |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | the American Planning Association, and the Alpha Xi Omega Chapter |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | of the Alpha Kappa Alpha sorority; and |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | WHEREAS, Among her many talents, Mayor Gordon is a |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | professional vocalist who performs with a 16-piece orchestra and |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | show band led by her husband of 20 years, gospel artist Larry |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | "T-Byrd" Gordon; the couple are the proud parents of a son, Larry |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | Gordon II; and |
|---|
| 33 | 33 | | WHEREAS, Mayor Gordon has demonstrated a longstanding |
|---|
| 34 | 34 | | commitment to her community, and her desire to serve others and work |
|---|
| 35 | 35 | | toward the greater good sets an inspiring example for her fellow |
|---|
| 36 | 36 | | Texans; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 37 | 37 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas |
|---|
| 38 | 38 | | Legislature hereby congratulate Carrie F. Gordon on her election as |
|---|
| 39 | 39 | | mayor of Balch Springs and extend to her sincere best wishes for a |
|---|
| 40 | 40 | | successful tenure in office; and, be it further |
