 R E S O L U T I O N
 WHEREAS, Balch Springs Mayor Carrie F. Gordon was elected to
 office on May 9, 2009, and it is indeed fitting to recognize her
 many accomplishments at this time; and
 WHEREAS, An urban planner, Mayor Gordon graduated from Bishop
 College and holds a master's degree in political economy from The
 University of Texas at Dallas and a doctorate in administration and
 management from Columbia Pacific University; in the course of more
 than two decades with the City of Dallas, she has worked on a wide
 array of planning and zoning issues; collaborating closely with
 citizens, attorneys, developers, business and property owners,
 public agencies, and other stakeholders, she wrote 10 neighborhood
 plans and area studies; she is currently involved with the
 development and revision of city ordinances and serves as a liaison
 on three special committees; and
 WHEREAS, This esteemed Texan has made many valuable
 contributions to Balch Springs as a member of the Planning and
 Zoning Commission and the Charter Review Commission; she assisted
 the city's staff in updating the municipal master plan and was
 instrumental in establishing the Zoning Ordinance Review Committee
 and in the development of the Balch Springs East annexation area
 plan; she is also a member of the Balch Springs Chamber of Commerce,
 the American Planning Association, and the Alpha Xi Omega Chapter
 of the Alpha Kappa Alpha sorority; and
 WHEREAS, Among her many talents, Mayor Gordon is a
 professional vocalist who performs with a 16-piece orchestra and
 show band led by her husband of 20 years, gospel artist Larry
 "T-Byrd" Gordon; the couple are the proud parents of a son, Larry
 Gordon II; and
 WHEREAS, Mayor Gordon has demonstrated a longstanding
 commitment to her community, and her desire to serve others and work
 toward the greater good sets an inspiring example for her fellow
 Texans; now, therefore, be it
 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas
 Legislature hereby congratulate Carrie F. Gordon on her election as
 mayor of Balch Springs and extend to her sincere best wishes for a
 successful tenure in office; and, be it further
 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
 prepared for Mayor Gordon as an expression of high regard by the
 Texas House of Representatives.
