5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, Dr. David A. Polnick, superintendent of the Abilene |
---|
6 | 6 | | Independent School District, is retiring from that post in June |
---|
7 | 7 | | 2010, after 38 years of outstanding service in the field of |
---|
8 | 8 | | education; and |
---|
9 | 9 | | WHEREAS, Since assuming the superintendency of Abilene ISD in |
---|
10 | 10 | | June 2003, Dr. Polnick has overseen the education of more than |
---|
11 | 11 | | 16,000 students each year and worked tirelessly to provide them |
---|
12 | 12 | | with superior instruction; among the challenges to which he has |
---|
13 | 13 | | devoted particular attention have been preparing students for the |
---|
14 | 14 | | changing needs of the workplace and dramatically upgrading the |
---|
15 | 15 | | district's technological infrastructure; in 2006, Business Outlook |
---|
16 | 16 | | magazine rated the Abilene public school system as the 17th best |
---|
17 | 17 | | among urban districts across the country; and |
---|
18 | 18 | | WHEREAS, Born and raised in Abilene, David Polnick began his |
---|
19 | 19 | | career with Abilene ISD as a fifth-grade teacher; after eight years |
---|
20 | 20 | | in the classroom and another eight years as an elementary school |
---|
21 | 21 | | principal, he became assistant superintendent and then deputy |
---|
22 | 22 | | superintendent for business and finance, an office he held for 13 |
---|
23 | 23 | | years; from 2001 to 2003, he served as assistant superintendent for |
---|
24 | 24 | | financial services with the Lubbock Independent School District; |
---|
25 | 25 | | and |
---|
26 | 26 | | WHEREAS, This distinguished educator is the first school |
---|
27 | 27 | | superintendent in the United States to receive the highest award |
---|
28 | 28 | | conferred on civilians by the United States Air Force, the Scroll of |
---|
29 | 29 | | Appreciation; that honor was bestowed on him in recognition of his |
---|
30 | 30 | | assistance to military families at Dyess Air Force Base; he is also |
---|
31 | 31 | | the recipient of the 2007 HEB Excellence in Education Award; and |
---|
32 | 32 | | WHEREAS, Dr. Polnick earned his bachelor's degree from |
---|
33 | 33 | | Concordia Teachers College, his master's degree from Abilene |
---|
34 | 34 | | Christian University, and his doctorate from Texas Tech University; |
---|
35 | 35 | | and |
---|
36 | 36 | | WHEREAS, David Polnick and his wife, Mary Ann, have a son and |
---|
37 | 37 | | daughter-in-law, Benjamin and Kimberly Polnick, a daughter, Julie |
---|
38 | 38 | | Polnick, and a grandson, Creighton; and |
---|
39 | 39 | | WHEREAS, Through his unwavering commitment to the district's |
---|
40 | 40 | | students and staff, Dr. David Polnick has led the way in fostering a |
---|
41 | 41 | | supportive and challenging educational environment, one that gives |
---|
42 | 42 | | students a vision of what they might attain if they strive for |
---|
43 | 43 | | success and that equips them with skills they will need to build |
---|
44 | 44 | | fulfilling and productive lives; now, therefore, be it |
---|
45 | 45 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas |
---|
46 | 46 | | Legislature hereby honor Dr. David A. Polnick for his exceptional |
---|
47 | 47 | | service as superintendent of the Abilene Independent School |
---|
48 | 48 | | District and extend to him sincere best wishes for much happiness in |
---|
49 | 49 | | the years ahead; and, be it further |
---|
50 | 50 | | RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |

51 | 51 | | prepared for Dr. Polnick as an expression of high regard by the |
