| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, Sergeant Mark Alan Vaughn of Clute has rendered |
|---|
| 6 | 6 | | outstanding service in Iraq as a member of the United States Army; |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | and |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | WHEREAS, Mark Vaughn enlisted in the U.S. Army on August 1, |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | 2001, at the age of 17, following the notable military tradition set |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | by his grandfathers, Henry Jim Janik, who served in the U.S. Navy |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | during World War II, and Arnold Bernard Vaughn, Sr., who served in |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | the U.S. Navy during the Korean War; and |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | WHEREAS, Currently deployed for his third tour of duty in |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | Iraq, this brave soldier is serving as a tank mechanic with the |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | Bravo Company 115th Base Support Battalion Unit, and he is |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | considering re-enlisting for a third time on completion of the |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | tour; and |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | WHEREAS, During his visits home to the Lone Star State, |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | Sergeant Vaughn takes great pleasure in spending time outdoors, |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | hunting, fishing, and playing softball; a caring and devoted family |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | man, he enjoys the love and support of his wife, Lindsey, his son, |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | Matthew Isaiah, and his parents, Arnold and Frances; moreover, he |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | is a tremendous source of pride for his fellow residents of Clute, |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | and in April 2009, the Brazoria County Cavalry honored him with a |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | celebratory send-off ceremony; and |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | WHEREAS, Americans owe a profound debt of gratitude to |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | Sergeant Vaughn and to all of the country's military personnel, for |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | they are called on to bear great, often unimaginable, burdens, and |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | their service and sacrifices are truly beyond measure; through his |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | unfaltering dedication to duty, honor, and this nation, Sergeant |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | Vaughn embodies the highest ideals of the U.S. armed forces, and he |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | has earned the lasting admiration and appreciation of all who know |
|---|
| 33 | 33 | | him; now, therefore, be it |

| 34 | 34 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas |

| 35 | 35 | | Legislature hereby commend U.S. Army Sergeant Mark Alan Vaughn for |

| 36 | 36 | | his courageous and steadfast service in Iraq and extend to him |

| 37 | 37 | | sincere best wishes for the future; and, be it further |
