5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, Residents of Angleton are mourning the loss of |
---|
6 | 6 | | esteemed educator Frances Chalmers, whose untimely passing on |
---|
7 | 7 | | December 16, 2008, at the age of 62, has left a void in the lives of |
---|
8 | 8 | | all who knew and loved her; and |
---|
9 | 9 | | WHEREAS, Born on September 6, 1946, Frances Chalmers grew up |
---|
10 | 10 | | in Tyler and graduated from Stephen F. Austin State University in |
---|
11 | 11 | | 1968; she subsequently moved to Angleton, where she began her |
---|
12 | 12 | | career as a middle school English teacher, a position in which she |
---|
13 | 13 | | would serve for more than three decades; she was known for her love |
---|
14 | 14 | | of children, her quick wit, and her ability to reach all students; |
---|
15 | 15 | | and |
---|
16 | 16 | | WHEREAS, In addition to her work in the classroom, Mrs. |
---|
17 | 17 | | Chalmers contributed to the school community through her leadership |
---|
18 | 18 | | of the English department, her organization of the annual Brazoria |
---|
19 | 19 | | County Spelling Bee, and her regular attendance at sporting events; |
---|
20 | 20 | | moreover, she drew on her Jewish heritage to teach lessons on the |
---|
21 | 21 | | Holocaust and served as a resource to the Angleton High School choir |
---|
22 | 22 | | when they performed traditional Hebrew songs; and |
---|
23 | 23 | | WHEREAS, Mrs. Chalmers remained involved in the school |
---|
24 | 24 | | district after her retirement, serving as a substitute teacher and |
---|
25 | 25 | | a volunteer; she often encountered former students, whom she called |
---|
26 | 26 | | her "kids," and delighted in hearing about the course of their |
---|
27 | 27 | | lives; in May 2008, she entered public service, following her |
---|
28 | 28 | | election to the Angleton Independent School District Board of |
---|
29 | 29 | | Trustees; and |
---|
30 | 30 | | WHEREAS, Frances Chalmers benefited countless people with |
---|
31 | 31 | | her guidance, generosity, and thoughtfulness, and although she is |
---|
32 | 32 | | deeply missed, she will long be remembered by those who were |
---|
33 | 33 | | privileged to share in the warmth of her love and friendship; now, |
---|
34 | 34 | | therefore, be it |
---|
35 | 35 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas |
---|
36 | 36 | | Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Frances Chalmers and |
---|
37 | 37 | | extend sincere sympathy to the members of her family: to her |
---|
38 | 38 | | husband, Eddie Chalmers; to her children, Sam Chalmers and his |
---|
39 | 39 | | wife, Jill, and Hanna Chalmers; and to her other relatives and many |
---|
40 | 40 | | friends; and, be it further |
---|
41 | 41 | | RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
---|
42 | 42 | | prepared for her family and that when the Texas House of |

43 | 43 | | Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Frances |
