 R E S O L U T I O N
 WHEREAS, Residents of Angleton are mourning the loss of
 esteemed educator Frances Chalmers, whose untimely passing on
 December 16, 2008, at the age of 62, has left a void in the lives of
 all who knew and loved her; and
 WHEREAS, Born on September 6, 1946, Frances Chalmers grew up
 in Tyler and graduated from Stephen F. Austin State University in
 1968; she subsequently moved to Angleton, where she began her
 career as a middle school English teacher, a position in which she
 would serve for more than three decades; she was known for her love
 of children, her quick wit, and her ability to reach all students;
 and
 WHEREAS, In addition to her work in the classroom, Mrs.
 Chalmers contributed to the school community through her leadership
 of the English department, her organization of the annual Brazoria
 County Spelling Bee, and her regular attendance at sporting events;
 moreover, she drew on her Jewish heritage to teach lessons on the
 Holocaust and served as a resource to the Angleton High School choir
 when they performed traditional Hebrew songs; and
 WHEREAS, Mrs. Chalmers remained involved in the school
 district after her retirement, serving as a substitute teacher and
 a volunteer; she often encountered former students, whom she called
 her "kids," and delighted in hearing about the course of their
 lives; in May 2008, she entered public service, following her
 election to the Angleton Independent School District Board of
 Trustees; and
 WHEREAS, Frances Chalmers benefited countless people with
 her guidance, generosity, and thoughtfulness, and although she is
 deeply missed, she will long be remembered by those who were
 privileged to share in the warmth of her love and friendship; now,
 therefore, be it
 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas
 Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Frances Chalmers and
 extend sincere sympathy to the members of her family: to her
 husband, Eddie Chalmers; to her children, Sam Chalmers and his
 wife, Jill, and Hanna Chalmers; and to her other relatives and many
 friends; and, be it further
 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
 prepared for her family and that when the Texas House of
 Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Frances
 Chalmers.
