| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, Laura Perkins Cox has ably served the people of |

| 6 | 6 | | Garland as the city council member for District 2 since 2006, and |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | her knowledge and dedication have earned her the respect and |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | appreciation of many people; and |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | WHEREAS, A licensed attorney, the former Laura Perkins was |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | serving as an officer in the U.S. Navy Judge Advocate General's |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | Corps in Long Beach, California, when she met her husband, Steve |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | Cox, also a Texan who was stationed there; after completing their |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | naval service in Corpus Christi, they moved in 1996 to Garland, |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | where they started a family and were blessed with two daughters, |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | Miranda and Sarah; and |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | WHEREAS, Mrs. Perkins Cox was previously active in her |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | community as president of the Mill Creek Crossing Neighborhood |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | Association and as vice chair of the Garland Citizen Ethics Review |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | Committee, and she drafted the city's ethics ordinance; she has |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | also been a board member, vice president, and president of the |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | Garland Housing Finance Corporation; now serving her second term on |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | the city council, she remains committed to further enhancing the |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | city she is proud to call home; and |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | WHEREAS, The effective operation of city government depends |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | on the hard work of committed public servants, and Laura Perkins Cox |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | is indeed one such individual; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas |

| 28 | 28 | | Legislature hereby commend Laura Perkins Cox on her exemplary |

| 29 | 29 | | contributions in behalf of her community as a member of the Garland |

| 30 | 30 | | City Council and extend to her sincere best wishes for continued |
