H.R. No. 2434 R E S O L U T I O N WHEREAS, Laura Perkins Cox has ably served the people of Garland as the city council member for District 2 since 2006, and her knowledge and dedication have earned her the respect and appreciation of many people; and WHEREAS, A licensed attorney, the former Laura Perkins was serving as an officer in the U.S. Navy Judge Advocate General's Corps in Long Beach, California, when she met her husband, Steve Cox, also a Texan who was stationed there; after completing their naval service in Corpus Christi, they moved in 1996 to Garland, where they started a family and were blessed with two daughters, Miranda and Sarah; and WHEREAS, Mrs. Perkins Cox was previously active in her community as president of the Mill Creek Crossing Neighborhood Association and as vice chair of the Garland Citizen Ethics Review Committee, and she drafted the city's ethics ordinance; she has also been a board member, vice president, and president of the Garland Housing Finance Corporation; now serving her second term on the city council, she remains committed to further enhancing the city she is proud to call home; and WHEREAS, The effective operation of city government depends on the hard work of committed public servants, and Laura Perkins Cox is indeed one such individual; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas Legislature hereby commend Laura Perkins Cox on her exemplary contributions in behalf of her community as a member of the Garland City Council and extend to her sincere best wishes for continued success with her important work; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for Mrs. Perkins Cox as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
