44 R E S O L U T I O N
55 WHEREAS, Dr. Rosemary Karr of Plano has made an enduring
66 contribution to Collin College and to the State of Texas through her
77 significant achievements in mathematics education; and
88 WHEREAS, During her tenure at Collin College, which has
99 spanned nearly two decades, Dr. Karr has earned acclaim for the
1010 innovative way in which she teaches developmental math and helps
1111 students to overcome their fear of the subject; in addition to her
1212 record of success in her own classes, she designed the Passport
1313 self-paced instructional program, which has proven a highly
1414 successful method of teaching college-level math; and
1515 WHEREAS, Her work has been recognized with a number of
1616 awards; most notably, she was named a U.S. Professor of the Year for
1717 2007; this prestigious honor is sponsored by the Council for the
1818 Advancement and Support of Education and the Carnegie Foundation
1919 for the Advancement of Teaching and is presented to just four
2020 professors in the United States each calendar year; moreover, she
2121 garnered the 2007 National Association for Developmental Education
2222 Award for Outstanding Service to Developmental Education Students;
2323 and
2424 WHEREAS, Dr. Karr earned undergraduate and master's degrees
2525 from Eastern Kentucky University and holds a doctorate in higher
2626 education from the University of North Texas; she was a tenured
2727 professor at her alma mater of Eastern Kentucky before joining the
2828 Collin College faculty in 1990; and
2929 WHEREAS, Approaching her teaching duties with imagination
3030 and commitment, Rosemary Karr has had a profound impact on her
3131 students, and she is most deserving of the illustrious recognition
3232 she has attained; now, therefore, be it
3333 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas
3434 Legislature hereby congratulate Dr. Rosemary Karr on her
3535 exceptional professional accomplishments and extend to her sincere
3636 best wishes for continued success; and, be it further
3737 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
3838 prepared for Dr. Karr as an expression of high regard by the Texas
3939 House of Representatives.
