5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, Dr. Rosemary Karr of Plano has made an enduring |

6 | 6 | | contribution to Collin College and to the State of Texas through her |

7 | 7 | | significant achievements in mathematics education; and |
---|
8 | 8 | | WHEREAS, During her tenure at Collin College, which has |
---|
9 | 9 | | spanned nearly two decades, Dr. Karr has earned acclaim for the |
---|
10 | 10 | | innovative way in which she teaches developmental math and helps |
---|
11 | 11 | | students to overcome their fear of the subject; in addition to her |
---|
12 | 12 | | record of success in her own classes, she designed the Passport |
---|
13 | 13 | | self-paced instructional program, which has proven a highly |
---|
14 | 14 | | successful method of teaching college-level math; and |
---|
15 | 15 | | WHEREAS, Her work has been recognized with a number of |
---|
16 | 16 | | awards; most notably, she was named a U.S. Professor of the Year for |
---|
17 | 17 | | 2007; this prestigious honor is sponsored by the Council for the |
---|
18 | 18 | | Advancement and Support of Education and the Carnegie Foundation |
---|
19 | 19 | | for the Advancement of Teaching and is presented to just four |
---|
20 | 20 | | professors in the United States each calendar year; moreover, she |
---|
21 | 21 | | garnered the 2007 National Association for Developmental Education |
---|
22 | 22 | | Award for Outstanding Service to Developmental Education Students; |
---|

24 | 24 | | WHEREAS, Dr. Karr earned undergraduate and master's degrees |

25 | 25 | | from Eastern Kentucky University and holds a doctorate in higher |
---|
26 | 26 | | education from the University of North Texas; she was a tenured |
---|
27 | 27 | | professor at her alma mater of Eastern Kentucky before joining the |
---|
28 | 28 | | Collin College faculty in 1990; and |
---|
29 | 29 | | WHEREAS, Approaching her teaching duties with imagination |
---|
30 | 30 | | and commitment, Rosemary Karr has had a profound impact on her |
---|
31 | 31 | | students, and she is most deserving of the illustrious recognition |
---|
32 | 32 | | she has attained; now, therefore, be it |

33 | 33 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas |

34 | 34 | | Legislature hereby congratulate Dr. Rosemary Karr on her |
