 R E S O L U T I O N
 WHEREAS, Dr. Rosemary Karr of Plano has made an enduring
 contribution to Collin College and to the State of Texas through her
 significant achievements in mathematics education; and
 WHEREAS, During her tenure at Collin College, which has
 spanned nearly two decades, Dr. Karr has earned acclaim for the
 innovative way in which she teaches developmental math and helps
 students to overcome their fear of the subject; in addition to her
 record of success in her own classes, she designed the Passport
 self-paced instructional program, which has proven a highly
 successful method of teaching college-level math; and
 WHEREAS, Her work has been recognized with a number of
 awards; most notably, she was named a U.S. Professor of the Year for
 2007; this prestigious honor is sponsored by the Council for the
 Advancement and Support of Education and the Carnegie Foundation
 for the Advancement of Teaching and is presented to just four
 professors in the United States each calendar year; moreover, she
 garnered the 2007 National Association for Developmental Education
 Award for Outstanding Service to Developmental Education Students;
 and
 WHEREAS, Dr. Karr earned undergraduate and master's degrees
 from Eastern Kentucky University and holds a doctorate in higher
 education from the University of North Texas; she was a tenured
 professor at her alma mater of Eastern Kentucky before joining the
 Collin College faculty in 1990; and
 WHEREAS, Approaching her teaching duties with imagination
 and commitment, Rosemary Karr has had a profound impact on her
 students, and she is most deserving of the illustrious recognition
 she has attained; now, therefore, be it
 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas
 Legislature hereby congratulate Dr. Rosemary Karr on her
 exceptional professional accomplishments and extend to her sincere
 best wishes for continued success; and, be it further
 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
 prepared for Dr. Karr as an expression of high regard by the Texas
 House of Representatives.
