H.R. No. 2452 R E S O L U T I O N WHEREAS, For more than four decades, Enriqueta G. Fierro of El Paso has dedicated herself to serving her community, and her outstanding efforts indeed merit special recognition; and WHEREAS, An El Paso native, the former Queta Galindo was born on April 8, 1934, to Carlos and Guadalupe Galindo, and she went on to graduate from Bowie High School; it was there that she met her future husband, Jesus J. "Chuy" Fierro; the couple were married in 1958, and they shared the joy of welcoming into their family four sons, Jesus, Carlos, Martin, and Mark; and WHEREAS, In the late 1960s, Mrs. Fierro began working on campaigns and participating in county conventions for the Democratic party, and in 1968, she became the staff assistant to U.S. Congressman Richard C. White; for the next 15 years, she acted as a liaison between his constituents and various federal agencies, and she represented the Congressional office on a number of municipal boards; in 1983, she began a decade-long tenure as an assistant to the protocol officer at Fort Bliss, where she was recognized with many accolades, including the Superior Civilian Service Award; and WHEREAS, A dedicated member of LULAC since 1968, Mrs. Fierro has supervised the national office in El Paso, and in 1994, she began coordinating the group's national conventions; in addition, she has served as the LULAC National Chaplain, as president of LULAC Project Amistad, and as the deputy director for District 4, and she has been named LULAC Woman of the Year at the district, state, and national levels; she has also received the Outstanding LULAC State President of the Year designation, and she was inducted into the National LULAC Women's Hall of Fame in 1998; and WHEREAS, The El Paso County Democratic Chair from 2000 through 2002, Mrs. Fierro has also served as the chair of Precinct 88 for more than a decade, as the president of the Woman's National Democratic Club, and as a member of the El Paso County Democratic Executive Committee, and she was inducted into the El Paso County Democratic Hall of Fame and the Tejano Democrats Paso Del Norte Chapter Hall of Fame; and WHEREAS, This esteemed Texan has further contributed to such organizations as Providence Memorial Hospital, the YWCA Women's Resource Center, the City of El Paso Arts Resources Board, the El Paso Airport and Mass Transit Board, the local PTA, and El Paso Community College, and she was president of the Muscular Dystrophy Association; moreover, Mrs. Fierro has been active on the boards of the International Hispanic Cultural Institute, El Paso Counts, the El Paso Community Foundation, and the Hispanic Leadership Institute, and she was the first woman to be elected president of the board of the El Paso Civic Center; she has also been involved with Leadership El Paso and St. Pius X Church, and she was on the board of the Bowie High School Alumni Association and was named Bowie's Outstanding Ex-Student for 1986; and WHEREAS, Mrs. Fierro has received Special Congressional Recognition from U.S. Congressman Silvestre Reyes, and numerous other tributes, including the Del Norte Award from the County of El Paso, the Lucy G. Acosta Humanitarian Award, the Hidalgo Award, and the Star of the Mountain Award from Mayor John Cook, and she was listed among the World of Women by the El Paso Times; and WHEREAS, With a genuine concern for her fellow citizens, Queta Fierro has given freely of her time and talents for the benefit of her community, and she is an inspiration to all those who are privileged to know her; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas Legislature hereby honor Enriqueta G. Fierro on her notable history of civic leadership and volunteerism and extend to her sincere best wishes for continued success and happiness; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for Mrs. Fierro as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
