| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, Dr. Robert Santoscoy has received the 2009 Vision of |
|---|
| 6 | 6 | | Excellence Award from the El Paso Hispanic Chamber of Commerce; and |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | WHEREAS, Presented during the chamber's annual Fiesta |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | Celebration, the award honors an individual or organization for |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | contributions to the success of the community, and Dr. Santoscoy is |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | being recognized for his noteworthy endeavors in behalf of health |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | care; and |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | WHEREAS, Dr. Santoscoy is currently the sole pediatric |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | cardiovascular surgeon in El Paso and one of only 11 in the State of |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | Texas; through his skill and expertise, he has saved the lives of |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | more than 3,000 children in his community, and he is also a |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | specialist in adult cardiac surgery and general thoracic surgery; |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | in addition to serving patients in his practice, Dr. Santoscoy has |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | given generously of his time and talents to a charitable program |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | that began to serve low-income cardiac patients in Juarez in 1999; |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | and |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | WHEREAS, A graduate of The University of Texas at El Paso, Dr. |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | Santoscoy earned his medical degree from The University of Texas |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | Medical School at Houston in 1986 and went on to complete a general |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | surgery residency at Creighton University and a thoracic residency |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | at West Virginia University, as well as a fellowship in pediatric |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | cardiac surgery at Children's Hospital of Michigan; through the |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | years, he has published numerous articles in such respected medical |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | publications as The Journal of Trauma and The Annals of Thoracic |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | Surgery; and |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | WHEREAS, Dr. Santoscoy is held in the highest esteem by his |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | professional colleagues and has earned the sincere gratitude and |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | admiration of countless patients and their families; through his |
|---|
| 33 | 33 | | commitment to excellence and selfless dedication, he has set an |
|---|
| 34 | 34 | | outstanding example of service to which others may aspire; now, |
|---|
| 35 | 35 | | therefore, be it |

| 36 | 36 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas |

| 37 | 37 | | Legislature hereby congratulate Dr. Robert Santoscoy on receiving |
