H.R. No. 2473 R E S O L U T I O N WHEREAS, The First Annual Memorial "Running Against the Wind" 5K took place in Rankin on May 23, 2009, in memory of respected rancher Bill Lindsey, whose life was cut short on March 25, 2009, at the age of 48; and WHEREAS, Mr. Lindsey appeared to be in excellent health before suffering a massive heart attack, and the "Running Against the Wind" 5K seeks to honor his legacy, as well as raise awareness of the importance of preventive health care; coordinated by Owen Yocham and Jason Hahn, the event is being held in conjunction with the World Championship Barbados Cook-off, hosted by the Rankin Chamber of Commerce; and WHEREAS, Affectionately called "Hoss" by his friends, Mr. Lindsey greeted friends and acquaintances alike with a smile and a handshake followed by a hug; he was known for his resourcefulness and ingenuity and for following the motto "improvise, adapt, and overcome"; on his ranches in West Texas and South Dakota, he often worked from sunup to sundown and then spent the evenings having fun with his family; and WHEREAS, Although Bill Lindsey is deeply missed by all who were privileged to know him, the annual "Running Against the Wind" 5K will help preserve his memory for many years to come; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas Legislature hereby commemorate the First Annual Memorial "Running Against the Wind" 5K and extend to all those associated with the event sincere best wishes for continued success.
