| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, Words cannot express the sorrow felt at the untimely |

| 6 | 6 | | loss of Mary Catherine McGuyer Porter of Grand Saline, who passed |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | away on April 3, 2009, at the age of 41; and |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | WHEREAS, Born in Arlington on June 29, 1967, the former Mary |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | McGuyer grew up in Grand Prairie and graduated from North Grand |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | Prairie High School, where she received a number of scholastic |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | awards, including a trophy for architectural drawing; and |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | WHEREAS, Mrs. Porter went on to develop her artistic |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | abilities in college, attending Texas A&M University--Commerce and |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | obtaining degrees from the University of North Texas in art, |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | psychology, and general studies; she also attended The University |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | of Texas at Tyler, earning a bachelor's degree in nursing and |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | becoming a registered nurse; and |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | WHEREAS, In 1994, Mrs. Porter settled in Mineola, where she |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | became a member of St. Dunstan's Episcopal Church, and she moved to |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | Grand Saline in 2007; she enjoyed a number of hobbies, including |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | drawing, reading, and writing in her journal, and she was active in |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | the Jim Hogg Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution of |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | Holly Lake Ranch; and |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | WHEREAS, Although her time on earth was all too brief, Mary |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | Porter had a positive and profound influence on those who were |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | fortunate enough to share in her life, and she will be fondly |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | remembered and deeply missed; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Mary Catherine |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | McGuyer Porter and extend sincere sympathy to the members of her |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | family: to her daughter, Angela Porter; to her parents, Billy and |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | Lawana McGuyer; to her sister, Elizabeth Morgan; and to her other |
|---|
| 33 | 33 | | relatives and friends; and, be it further |

| 34 | 34 | | RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |

| 35 | 35 | | prepared for her family and that when the Texas House of |
|---|
| 36 | 36 | | Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Mary |
