H.R. No. 2485 R E S O L U T I O N WHEREAS, Words cannot express the sorrow felt at the untimely loss of Mary Catherine McGuyer Porter of Grand Saline, who passed away on April 3, 2009, at the age of 41; and WHEREAS, Born in Arlington on June 29, 1967, the former Mary McGuyer grew up in Grand Prairie and graduated from North Grand Prairie High School, where she received a number of scholastic awards, including a trophy for architectural drawing; and WHEREAS, Mrs. Porter went on to develop her artistic abilities in college, attending Texas A&M University--Commerce and obtaining degrees from the University of North Texas in art, psychology, and general studies; she also attended The University of Texas at Tyler, earning a bachelor's degree in nursing and becoming a registered nurse; and WHEREAS, In 1994, Mrs. Porter settled in Mineola, where she became a member of St. Dunstan's Episcopal Church, and she moved to Grand Saline in 2007; she enjoyed a number of hobbies, including drawing, reading, and writing in her journal, and she was active in the Jim Hogg Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution of Holly Lake Ranch; and WHEREAS, Although her time on earth was all too brief, Mary Porter had a positive and profound influence on those who were fortunate enough to share in her life, and she will be fondly remembered and deeply missed; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Mary Catherine McGuyer Porter and extend sincere sympathy to the members of her family: to her daughter, Angela Porter; to her parents, Billy and Lawana McGuyer; to her sister, Elizabeth Morgan; and to her other relatives and friends; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for her family and that when the Texas House of Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Mary Porter.
