 R E S O L U T I O N
 WHEREAS, The city of Dallas has greatly benefited from the
 dedicated leadership of the Honorable Tom Leppert since he was
 elected mayor in 2007; and
 WHEREAS, During his tenure in municipal government, Mayor
 Leppert has ably guided the city with an eye to the future, and his
 knowledge and expertise in a wide range of community issues have
 benefited area residents in myriad ways; focused on improving
 education, he has launched such initiatives as Ready to Read at
 Dallas, the Mayor's Intern Fellows, Operation Front Door, and the
 Mayor's Chesapeake Energy Scholarship Fund; he has also instituted
 a neighborhood patrol, hired more police officers, and secured
 funding to alleviate homelessness; and
 WHEREAS, An ardent supporter of environmental protection
 efforts, Mayor Leppert has created a Green Building Program to
 increase energy efficiency and resource conservation; he has
 further contributed to the city by attracting major corporations to
 the area, expanding the Inland Port, moving forward with the
 Trinity River Corridor project, and leading trade missions in China
 and Mexico; and
 WHEREAS, Tom Leppert graduated cum laude from Claremont
 McKenna College in Southern California, and after earning an MBA
 with distinction from Harvard Business School, he was appointed by
 President Ronald Reagan as a White House Fellow to work for the
 secretary of the treasury; Mr. Leppert went on to become the chair
 and CEO of Turner Construction Company, an $8 billion corporation,
 which he helped grow significantly, and he oversaw the acquisition
 of more than $1 billion in minority contracts; in addition, he is
 active on the board of Washington Mutual, Inc.; and
 WHEREAS, Mayor Leppert has further distinguished himself
 through his involvement in several community organizations,
 including the Baylor Health Care System and the Dallas Committee on
 Foreign Relations; a former chair of the Dallas Regional Chamber,
 he continues to serve on the group's executive committee, and he is
 the vice chair of the board of trustees for Claremont McKenna
 College; and
 WHEREAS, In all of his endeavors, Tom Leppert enjoys the love
 and support of his wife, Laura, and the couple have been blessed
 with three children, Christian, Catherine, and Ryan; and
 WHEREAS, Each day, public servants improve the quality of
 life for their fellow citizens in innumerable ways, and the efforts
 of Mayor Leppert are helping to make Dallas an even better place in
 which to live and work; now, therefore, be it
 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas
 Legislature hereby honor Mayor Tom Leppert for his committed public
 service and extend to him sincere best wishes for continued
 success; and, be it further
 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
 prepared for Mayor Leppert as an expression of high regard by the
 Texas House of Representatives.
