| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, The Penascal Wind Power Project in Kenedy County was |

| 6 | 6 | | dedicated on April 17, 2009; and |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | WHEREAS, Situated south of Baffin Bay, the Penascal project |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | is the first inland wind farm built along the Texas Gulf Coast; it |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | is owned by Iberdrola Renewables, which commissioned extensive |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | wildlife studies to ensure minimal environmental impacts on birds, |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | wildlife, and wetlands; and |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | WHEREAS, The project consists of 84 turbines that generate |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | 202 megawatts of renewable energy, which can typically generate |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | power for more than 70,000 homes; two energy companies, CPS Energy |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | and South Texas Electric Cooperative, have signed 15-year |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | agreements to purchase power from Penascal; and |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | WHEREAS, Harnessing abundant coastal winds, the Penascal |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | Wind Power Project is contributing to the state's transmission |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | capacity to bring renewable power to urban areas, and in so doing, |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | the project is helping Texans achieve ever greater energy |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | efficiency; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | Legislature hereby commemorate the dedication of the Penascal Wind |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | Power Project in Kenedy County and extend to all those associated |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | with the project sincere best wishes for continued success; and, be |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | it further |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |

| 28 | 28 | | prepared for the Penascal Wind Power Project as an expression of |
