H.R. No. 2491 R E S O L U T I O N WHEREAS, The Penascal Wind Power Project in Kenedy County was dedicated on April 17, 2009; and WHEREAS, Situated south of Baffin Bay, the Penascal project is the first inland wind farm built along the Texas Gulf Coast; it is owned by Iberdrola Renewables, which commissioned extensive wildlife studies to ensure minimal environmental impacts on birds, wildlife, and wetlands; and WHEREAS, The project consists of 84 turbines that generate 202 megawatts of renewable energy, which can typically generate power for more than 70,000 homes; two energy companies, CPS Energy and South Texas Electric Cooperative, have signed 15-year agreements to purchase power from Penascal; and WHEREAS, Harnessing abundant coastal winds, the Penascal Wind Power Project is contributing to the state's transmission capacity to bring renewable power to urban areas, and in so doing, the project is helping Texans achieve ever greater energy efficiency; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas Legislature hereby commemorate the dedication of the Penascal Wind Power Project in Kenedy County and extend to all those associated with the project sincere best wishes for continued success; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for the Penascal Wind Power Project as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
