| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, Home Comforts is making a measurable difference in |

| 6 | 6 | | the lives of the mentally ill in Bexar County; and |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | WHEREAS, Chartered in October 2002, Home Comforts is an |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | all-volunteer nonprofit organization that is dedicated to helping |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | the mentally ill establish and maintain their own homes; mentally |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | ill men and women can experience great stress and anxiety after |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | transitioning into independent housing; they often have few |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | resources, if any, and disability benefits can be slow to arrive; |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | and |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | WHEREAS, Home Comforts intervenes at this critical juncture |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | with a welcome basket of such household items as linens, dishes, and |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | cleaning supplies, and the group also donates a variety of |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | furniture; in addition, Home Comforts can help with furniture |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | storage for those dealing with an eviction, and in rare instances it |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | even provides small sums of cash for special needs; and |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | WHEREAS, Supported by St. Luke's Health Care Ministries, Home |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | Comforts works in conjunction with Merced Housing Texas, the |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | Assistance League, the National Alliance on Mental Illness, South |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | San Community for Mental Health, and several churches; it serves |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | some 250 families a year, with referrals coming from the Center for |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | Health Care Services, the Veterans Administration, private |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | providers, and others; and |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | WHEREAS, Clients of Home Comforts have received vital |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | assistance from this notable organization, and it is indeed a |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | pleasure to commend these caring volunteers for their many good |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | works; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | Legislature hereby honor Home Comforts for its efforts in behalf of |
|---|
| 33 | 33 | | the mentally ill of Bexar County and extend to all those associated |
|---|
| 34 | 34 | | with the organization sincere best wishes for continued success; |
