| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, Mirian D. Spencer of El Paso has distinguished |

| 6 | 6 | | herself through her career in public service and her community |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | involvement; and |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | WHEREAS, After earning a bachelor's degree in criminal |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | justice from Texas Christian University in 2001, Ms. Spencer joined |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | the staff of the El Paso Police Department, and in 2003, she became |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | the regional command research assistant for the organization; since |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | 2005, she has worked for the City of El Paso Development Services, |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | in the planning division; she has also furthered her education by |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | taking business administration courses, and she is currently |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | enrolled in the planning certificate program at The University of |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | Texas at El Paso; and |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | WHEREAS, Ms. Spencer is affiliated with many local groups, |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | including the Camino Real Mexican American Democrats and the Black |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | El Paso Democrats, and she serves as the chair for Precinct 99; in |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | addition, she is active in the West Texas chapter of the American |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | Planning Association, and she is a former president of the Sun City |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | Lions Club; she has also been a member of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | Inc., for nearly a decade, participating in a number of service |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | projects aimed at youth and serving as secretary of the |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | organization; and |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | WHEREAS, Through the years, Mirian Spencer has demonstrated a |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | strong commitment to her community, and she may indeed reflect with |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | great pride on her many achievements and contributions; now, |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | therefore, be it |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas |

| 31 | 31 | | Legislature hereby honor Mirian D. Spencer on her service to her |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | fellow Texans and extend to her sincere best wishes for continued |

| 33 | 33 | | success and happiness; and, be it further |
