H.R. No. 2500 R E S O L U T I O N WHEREAS, Mirian D. Spencer of El Paso has distinguished herself through her career in public service and her community involvement; and WHEREAS, After earning a bachelor's degree in criminal justice from Texas Christian University in 2001, Ms. Spencer joined the staff of the El Paso Police Department, and in 2003, she became the regional command research assistant for the organization; since 2005, she has worked for the City of El Paso Development Services, in the planning division; she has also furthered her education by taking business administration courses, and she is currently enrolled in the planning certificate program at The University of Texas at El Paso; and WHEREAS, Ms. Spencer is affiliated with many local groups, including the Camino Real Mexican American Democrats and the Black El Paso Democrats, and she serves as the chair for Precinct 99; in addition, she is active in the West Texas chapter of the American Planning Association, and she is a former president of the Sun City Lions Club; she has also been a member of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc., for nearly a decade, participating in a number of service projects aimed at youth and serving as secretary of the organization; and WHEREAS, Through the years, Mirian Spencer has demonstrated a strong commitment to her community, and she may indeed reflect with great pride on her many achievements and contributions; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas Legislature hereby honor Mirian D. Spencer on her service to her fellow Texans and extend to her sincere best wishes for continued success and happiness; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for Ms. Spencer as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
