| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, Family and friends of U.S. Marine Corps Staff |

| 6 | 6 | | Sergeant Edgar A. Heredia suffered an immeasurable loss when he |

| 7 | 7 | | died in Afghanistan on June 26, 2008, at the age of 28; and |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | WHEREAS, Assigned to the 2nd Marine Special Operations |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | Battalion, U.S. Marine Corps Forces Special Operations Command out |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | of Camp Lejeune, North Carolina, Staff Sergeant Heredia died while |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | supporting combat operations in Farah Province, Afghanistan; and |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | WHEREAS, The son of parents from Mexico, Edgar A. Heredia |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | graduated from Taylor High School in the Alief Independent School |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | District in 1998; that same year, desiring to serve the nation that |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | had been so good to his family, he enlisted in the Marines; and |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | WHEREAS, During his 10 years in the corps, this brave |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | American received training as a reconnaissance man and served as a |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | sniper, and he saw duty in Iraq and Afghanistan; he was promoted to |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | staff sergeant in 2007, and he had recently become a reconnaissance |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | team leader; and |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | WHEREAS, Staff Sergeant Heredia's decorations and |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | commendations include the Purple Heart, the Navy and Marine Corps |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | Commendation Medal, the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal, a |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | Combat Action Ribbon, a Navy Unit Commendation, a Navy Meritorious |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | Unit Commendation, and three Marine Corps Good Conduct Medals, |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | among many others; and |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | WHEREAS, Exemplifying the highest ideals of the U.S. armed |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | forces, Edgar Heredia inspired others with his fortitude and |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | courage, and although his passing has left a void in the lives of |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | those who loved him, they will forever carry his memory close to |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | their hearts; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas |
|---|
| 33 | 33 | | Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of U.S. Marine Corps |

| 34 | 34 | | Staff Sergeant Edgar A. Heredia and extend sincere sympathy to the |
|---|
| 35 | 35 | | members of his family and to his friends; and, be it further |

| 36 | 36 | | RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
