55 WHEREAS, Family and friends of U.S. Marine Corps Staff
66 Sergeant Edgar A. Heredia suffered an immeasurable loss when he
77 died in Afghanistan on June 26, 2008, at the age of 28; and
88 WHEREAS, Assigned to the 2nd Marine Special Operations
99 Battalion, U.S. Marine Corps Forces Special Operations Command out
1010 of Camp Lejeune, North Carolina, Staff Sergeant Heredia died while
1111 supporting combat operations in Farah Province, Afghanistan; and
1212 WHEREAS, The son of parents from Mexico, Edgar A. Heredia
1313 graduated from Taylor High School in the Alief Independent School
1414 District in 1998; that same year, desiring to serve the nation that
1515 had been so good to his family, he enlisted in the Marines; and
1616 WHEREAS, During his 10 years in the corps, this brave
1717 American received training as a reconnaissance man and served as a
1818 sniper, and he saw duty in Iraq and Afghanistan; he was promoted to
1919 staff sergeant in 2007, and he had recently become a reconnaissance
2020 team leader; and
2121 WHEREAS, Staff Sergeant Heredia's decorations and
2222 commendations include the Purple Heart, the Navy and Marine Corps
2323 Commendation Medal, the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal, a
2424 Combat Action Ribbon, a Navy Unit Commendation, a Navy Meritorious
2525 Unit Commendation, and three Marine Corps Good Conduct Medals,
2626 among many others; and
2727 WHEREAS, Exemplifying the highest ideals of the U.S. armed
2828 forces, Edgar Heredia inspired others with his fortitude and
2929 courage, and although his passing has left a void in the lives of
3030 those who loved him, they will forever carry his memory close to
3131 their hearts; now, therefore, be it
3232 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas
3333 Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of U.S. Marine Corps
3434 Staff Sergeant Edgar A. Heredia and extend sincere sympathy to the
3535 members of his family and to his friends; and, be it further
3636 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
3737 prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of
3838 Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of U.S. Marine
3939 Corps Staff Sergeant Edgar A. Heredia.
