 R E S O L U T I O N
 WHEREAS, Family and friends of U.S. Marine Corps Staff
 Sergeant Edgar A. Heredia suffered an immeasurable loss when he
 died in Afghanistan on June 26, 2008, at the age of 28; and
 WHEREAS, Assigned to the 2nd Marine Special Operations
 Battalion, U.S. Marine Corps Forces Special Operations Command out
 of Camp Lejeune, North Carolina, Staff Sergeant Heredia died while
 supporting combat operations in Farah Province, Afghanistan; and
 WHEREAS, The son of parents from Mexico, Edgar A. Heredia
 graduated from Taylor High School in the Alief Independent School
 District in 1998; that same year, desiring to serve the nation that
 had been so good to his family, he enlisted in the Marines; and
 WHEREAS, During his 10 years in the corps, this brave
 American received training as a reconnaissance man and served as a
 sniper, and he saw duty in Iraq and Afghanistan; he was promoted to
 staff sergeant in 2007, and he had recently become a reconnaissance
 team leader; and
 WHEREAS, Staff Sergeant Heredia's decorations and
 commendations include the Purple Heart, the Navy and Marine Corps
 Commendation Medal, the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal, a
 Combat Action Ribbon, a Navy Unit Commendation, a Navy Meritorious
 Unit Commendation, and three Marine Corps Good Conduct Medals,
 among many others; and
 WHEREAS, Exemplifying the highest ideals of the U.S. armed
 forces, Edgar Heredia inspired others with his fortitude and
 courage, and although his passing has left a void in the lives of
 those who loved him, they will forever carry his memory close to
 their hearts; now, therefore, be it
 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas
 Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of U.S. Marine Corps
 Staff Sergeant Edgar A. Heredia and extend sincere sympathy to the
 members of his family and to his friends; and, be it further
 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
 prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of
 Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of U.S. Marine
 Corps Staff Sergeant Edgar A. Heredia.
