55 WHEREAS, Words cannot adequately express the sorrow felt at
66 the loss of U.S. Army Private First Class Christopher Michael
77 McCloud of Athens, who died on September 14, 2007, at the age of 24;
88 and
99 WHEREAS, Assigned to the 6th Squadron, 9th U.S. Cavalry, 3rd
1010 Brigade Combat Team, 1st Cavalry Division, Private McCloud was
1111 based at Fort Hood and had also trained at Fort Knox in Tennessee; a
1212 cavalry scout, he was deployed to Iraq in May 2007 and was scheduled
1313 to return home in November; he was mortally wounded when an
1414 improvised explosive device detonated near his vehicle during
1515 combat operations held northeast of Baghdad; and
1616 WHEREAS, A native of Athens, Christopher McCloud attended
1717 Cross Roads Elementary and Junior High Schools, and he earned a high
1818 school diploma in 2001; while he had always aspired to join the
1919 military, he made the final decision to do so after the events of
2020 September 11, 2001, and he never faltered in his sense of duty and
2121 patriotism; and
2222 WHEREAS, Devoted to his family, Private McCloud was a caring
2323 husband to his wife, Sheena, whom he met at the United Pentecostal
2424 Church in Athens, and he took great pride in the couple's two sons,
2525 Aidan and Landyn; moreover, he enjoyed a close relationship with
2626 his mother, Sandra, his father, Michael, and his brother, Jason;
2727 and
2828 WHEREAS, Americans owe a profound debt to our nation's
2929 military personnel, and their dedicated efforts and enormous
3030 sacrifices are deserving of the utmost respect and gratitude;
3131 Private McCloud embodied the highest ideals of the United States
3232 armed forces, and although he is deeply missed, memories of him will
3333 forever be treasured by his loved ones and many friends; now,
3434 therefore, be it
3535 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas
3636 Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of U.S. Army Private
3737 First Class Christopher Michael McCloud and extend sincere sympathy
3838 to all those who mourn his passing; and, be it further
3939 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
4040 prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of
4141 Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of U.S. Army
4242 Private First Class Christopher Michael McCloud.
