| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, Words cannot adequately express the sorrow felt at |

| 6 | 6 | | the loss of U.S. Army Private First Class Christopher Michael |

| 7 | 7 | | McCloud of Athens, who died on September 14, 2007, at the age of 24; |

| 8 | 8 | | and |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | WHEREAS, Assigned to the 6th Squadron, 9th U.S. Cavalry, 3rd |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | Brigade Combat Team, 1st Cavalry Division, Private McCloud was |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | based at Fort Hood and had also trained at Fort Knox in Tennessee; a |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | cavalry scout, he was deployed to Iraq in May 2007 and was scheduled |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | to return home in November; he was mortally wounded when an |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | improvised explosive device detonated near his vehicle during |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | combat operations held northeast of Baghdad; and |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | WHEREAS, A native of Athens, Christopher McCloud attended |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | Cross Roads Elementary and Junior High Schools, and he earned a high |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | school diploma in 2001; while he had always aspired to join the |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | military, he made the final decision to do so after the events of |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | September 11, 2001, and he never faltered in his sense of duty and |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | patriotism; and |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | WHEREAS, Devoted to his family, Private McCloud was a caring |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | husband to his wife, Sheena, whom he met at the United Pentecostal |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | Church in Athens, and he took great pride in the couple's two sons, |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | Aidan and Landyn; moreover, he enjoyed a close relationship with |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | his mother, Sandra, his father, Michael, and his brother, Jason; |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | and |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | WHEREAS, Americans owe a profound debt to our nation's |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | military personnel, and their dedicated efforts and enormous |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | sacrifices are deserving of the utmost respect and gratitude; |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | Private McCloud embodied the highest ideals of the United States |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | armed forces, and although he is deeply missed, memories of him will |
|---|
| 33 | 33 | | forever be treasured by his loved ones and many friends; now, |

| 34 | 34 | | therefore, be it |

| 35 | 35 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas |

| 36 | 36 | | Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of U.S. Army Private |

| 37 | 37 | | First Class Christopher Michael McCloud and extend sincere sympathy |
