 R E S O L U T I O N
 WHEREAS, Words cannot adequately express the sorrow felt at
 the loss of U.S. Army Private First Class Christopher Michael
 McCloud of Athens, who died on September 14, 2007, at the age of 24;
 and
 WHEREAS, Assigned to the 6th Squadron, 9th U.S. Cavalry, 3rd
 Brigade Combat Team, 1st Cavalry Division, Private McCloud was
 based at Fort Hood and had also trained at Fort Knox in Tennessee; a
 cavalry scout, he was deployed to Iraq in May 2007 and was scheduled
 to return home in November; he was mortally wounded when an
 improvised explosive device detonated near his vehicle during
 combat operations held northeast of Baghdad; and
 WHEREAS, A native of Athens, Christopher McCloud attended
 Cross Roads Elementary and Junior High Schools, and he earned a high
 school diploma in 2001; while he had always aspired to join the
 military, he made the final decision to do so after the events of
 September 11, 2001, and he never faltered in his sense of duty and
 patriotism; and
 WHEREAS, Devoted to his family, Private McCloud was a caring
 husband to his wife, Sheena, whom he met at the United Pentecostal
 Church in Athens, and he took great pride in the couple's two sons,
 Aidan and Landyn; moreover, he enjoyed a close relationship with
 his mother, Sandra, his father, Michael, and his brother, Jason;
 and
 WHEREAS, Americans owe a profound debt to our nation's
 military personnel, and their dedicated efforts and enormous
 sacrifices are deserving of the utmost respect and gratitude;
 Private McCloud embodied the highest ideals of the United States
 armed forces, and although he is deeply missed, memories of him will
 forever be treasured by his loved ones and many friends; now,
 therefore, be it
 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas
 Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of U.S. Army Private
 First Class Christopher Michael McCloud and extend sincere sympathy
 to all those who mourn his passing; and, be it further
 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
 prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of
 Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of U.S. Army
 Private First Class Christopher Michael McCloud.
