44 R E S O L U T I O N
55 WHEREAS, Family and friends are mourning the loss of Hester
66 Beck Willis of Waco, who passed away on May 6, 2009, at the age of
77 85; and
88 WHEREAS, Born on February 1, 1924, in Waco, Hester Beck was
99 the only child of Roy and Bessie Beck; she graduated from her
1010 hometown high school with the Class of 1941, earned bachelor's and
1111 master's degrees from Baylor University, and went on to teach in the
1212 La Vega, Dallas, and Waco school systems; and
1313 WHEREAS, She exchanged the vows of matrimony with John Todd
1414 Willis, Jr., on February 2, 1952, at a ceremony held at the Austin
1515 Avenue United Methodist Church in Waco; Mrs. Willis and her husband
1616 became the proud parents of two children and shared a rewarding
1717 marriage until his passing; and
1818 WHEREAS, A life member of United Methodist Women, Mrs. Willis
1919 served her fellow congregants at Austin Avenue UMC as a member of
2020 the administrative and stewards' boards and as a Sunday school
2121 teacher for the Primary I Department and the Friendship Class; this
2222 engaged citizen was a member of the Sterling C. Robertson Chapter of
2323 the Daughters of the Republic of Texas, the Henry Downs Chapter of
2424 the National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution,
2525 Chapter BF of the P.E.O. Sisterhood, and the Mary Milam Garden Club,
2626 and she held a life membership with the Friends of the Waco-McLennan
2727 County Library; and
2828 WHEREAS, A kind and caring woman, Hester Willis left an
2929 indelible impression on the lives of all who shared in her love and
3030 friendship, and they will forever carry her close in their hearts;
3131 now, therefore, be it
3232 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas
3333 Legislature hereby pay tribute to the memory of Hester Beck Willis
3434 and extend sincere condolences to the members of her family: to her
3535 sons, Dr. T. Bradford Willis and David Parker Willis, Sr., and his
3636 wife, Carol; to her grandchildren, David Parker Willis, Jr., and
3737 Laura Anne Willis; and to her other relatives and friends; and, be
3838 it further
3939 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
4040 prepared for her family and that when the Texas House of
4141 Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Hester Beck
4242 Willis.
