5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, Family and friends are mourning the loss of Hester |
---|
6 | 6 | | Beck Willis of Waco, who passed away on May 6, 2009, at the age of |
---|
7 | 7 | | 85; and |
---|
8 | 8 | | WHEREAS, Born on February 1, 1924, in Waco, Hester Beck was |
---|
9 | 9 | | the only child of Roy and Bessie Beck; she graduated from her |
---|
10 | 10 | | hometown high school with the Class of 1941, earned bachelor's and |
---|
11 | 11 | | master's degrees from Baylor University, and went on to teach in the |
---|
12 | 12 | | La Vega, Dallas, and Waco school systems; and |
---|
13 | 13 | | WHEREAS, She exchanged the vows of matrimony with John Todd |
---|
14 | 14 | | Willis, Jr., on February 2, 1952, at a ceremony held at the Austin |
---|
15 | 15 | | Avenue United Methodist Church in Waco; Mrs. Willis and her husband |
---|
16 | 16 | | became the proud parents of two children and shared a rewarding |
---|
17 | 17 | | marriage until his passing; and |
---|
18 | 18 | | WHEREAS, A life member of United Methodist Women, Mrs. Willis |
---|
19 | 19 | | served her fellow congregants at Austin Avenue UMC as a member of |
---|
20 | 20 | | the administrative and stewards' boards and as a Sunday school |
---|
21 | 21 | | teacher for the Primary I Department and the Friendship Class; this |
---|
22 | 22 | | engaged citizen was a member of the Sterling C. Robertson Chapter of |
---|
23 | 23 | | the Daughters of the Republic of Texas, the Henry Downs Chapter of |
---|
24 | 24 | | the National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution, |
---|
25 | 25 | | Chapter BF of the P.E.O. Sisterhood, and the Mary Milam Garden Club, |
---|
26 | 26 | | and she held a life membership with the Friends of the Waco-McLennan |
---|
27 | 27 | | County Library; and |
---|
28 | 28 | | WHEREAS, A kind and caring woman, Hester Willis left an |
---|
29 | 29 | | indelible impression on the lives of all who shared in her love and |
---|
30 | 30 | | friendship, and they will forever carry her close in their hearts; |
---|
31 | 31 | | now, therefore, be it |
---|
32 | 32 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas |
---|
33 | 33 | | Legislature hereby pay tribute to the memory of Hester Beck Willis |
---|
34 | 34 | | and extend sincere condolences to the members of her family: to her |
---|
35 | 35 | | sons, Dr. T. Bradford Willis and David Parker Willis, Sr., and his |
---|
36 | 36 | | wife, Carol; to her grandchildren, David Parker Willis, Jr., and |
---|
37 | 37 | | Laura Anne Willis; and to her other relatives and friends; and, be |
---|
38 | 38 | | it further |

39 | 39 | | RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
