44 R E S O L U T I O N
55 WHEREAS, Words cannot express the heartache felt at the loss
66 of U.S. Army Corporal Jason K. LaFleur, who died on August 4, 2007,
77 at the age of 28; and
88 WHEREAS, Assigned to the 1st Squadron, 40th Cavalry Regiment,
99 4th Brigade Combat Team (Airborne), 25th Infantry Division at Fort
1010 Richardson, Alaska, Corporal LaFleur was killed when his vehicle
1111 was struck by a roadside bomb in Hawr Rajab, Iraq; and
1212 WHEREAS, Jason LaFleur was born in Houston on January 28,
1313 1979, and raised in Lockhart, where he graduated from high school in
1414 1997; he subsequently pursued studies at the University of
1515 Mississippi and Southwest Texas State University before moving to
1616 Durango, Colorado, where his father lived; in 2005, he enlisted in
1717 the army and soon thrived as a member of the military; and
1818 WHEREAS, This brave soldier earned numerous recognitions,
1919 including the Army Commendation Medal, the Global War on Terrorism
2020 Service Medal, the Good Conduct Medal, the National Defense Service
2121 Medal, and the Iraq Campaign Medal, among others; for his actions on
2222 the day of his death, he was posthumously awarded a Bronze Star and
2323 the Purple Heart; and
2424 WHEREAS, Our state and nation are fortunate to have men and
2525 women whose love for their country inspires them to take up military
2626 service, yet the tragic death of this dedicated young soldier is a
2727 sobering reminder of the cost of war; Corporal Jason LaFleur
2828 demonstrated unwavering dedication to duty and honor, and those who
2929 loved him will forever carry him close in their hearts; now,
3030 therefore, be it
3131 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas
3232 Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of U.S. Army Corporal
3333 Jason LaFleur and extend sincere sympathy to the members of his
3434 family: to his mother and stepfather, Kei and Alan Torres; to his
3535 father, Chuck LaFleur; to his siblings, Megan LaFleur, Shane
3636 Wilcox, and Shannon Wilcox; to his niece, Maya Wilcox; and to his
3737 other relatives and many friends; and, be it further
3838 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
3939 prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of
4040 Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Jason K.
