 R E S O L U T I O N
 WHEREAS, Words cannot express the heartache felt at the loss
 of U.S. Army Corporal Jason K. LaFleur, who died on August 4, 2007,
 at the age of 28; and
 WHEREAS, Assigned to the 1st Squadron, 40th Cavalry Regiment,
 4th Brigade Combat Team (Airborne), 25th Infantry Division at Fort
 Richardson, Alaska, Corporal LaFleur was killed when his vehicle
 was struck by a roadside bomb in Hawr Rajab, Iraq; and
 WHEREAS, Jason LaFleur was born in Houston on January 28,
 1979, and raised in Lockhart, where he graduated from high school in
 1997; he subsequently pursued studies at the University of
 Mississippi and Southwest Texas State University before moving to
 Durango, Colorado, where his father lived; in 2005, he enlisted in
 the army and soon thrived as a member of the military; and
 WHEREAS, This brave soldier earned numerous recognitions,
 including the Army Commendation Medal, the Global War on Terrorism
 Service Medal, the Good Conduct Medal, the National Defense Service
 Medal, and the Iraq Campaign Medal, among others; for his actions on
 the day of his death, he was posthumously awarded a Bronze Star and
 the Purple Heart; and
 WHEREAS, Our state and nation are fortunate to have men and
 women whose love for their country inspires them to take up military
 service, yet the tragic death of this dedicated young soldier is a
 sobering reminder of the cost of war; Corporal Jason LaFleur
 demonstrated unwavering dedication to duty and honor, and those who
 loved him will forever carry him close in their hearts; now,
 therefore, be it
 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas
 Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of U.S. Army Corporal
 Jason LaFleur and extend sincere sympathy to the members of his
 family: to his mother and stepfather, Kei and Alan Torres; to his
 father, Chuck LaFleur; to his siblings, Megan LaFleur, Shane
 Wilcox, and Shannon Wilcox; to his niece, Maya Wilcox; and to his
 other relatives and many friends; and, be it further
 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
 prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of
 Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Jason K.
 LaFleur.
