5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, The family and friends of U.S. Army Corporal |

6 | 6 | | Christopher J. West of Arlington suffered an immeasurable loss with |

7 | 7 | | the death of this valiant soldier on February 4, 2008, at the age of |

8 | 8 | | 26; and |
---|
9 | 9 | | WHEREAS, Assigned to the 1st Squadron, 73rd Cavalry Regiment, |
---|
10 | 10 | | 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 82nd Airborne Division, based at Fort |
---|
11 | 11 | | Bragg, North Carolina, Corporal West lost his life while bravely |
---|
12 | 12 | | serving his country in Iraq; and |
---|
13 | 13 | | WHEREAS, C. J. West graduated from Bowie High School in 2000 |
---|
14 | 14 | | and went on to earn his bachelor's degree in marketing with honors |
---|
15 | 15 | | from Texas A&M University; he became the fifth generation of his |
---|
16 | 16 | | family to serve in the U.S. Army when he joined the military in |
---|
17 | 17 | | 2007; highly decorated for his service, he earned the Bronze Star |
---|
18 | 18 | | Medal, the Purple Heart, and many other honors; and |
---|
19 | 19 | | WHEREAS, Corporal West served as a combat medic and a |
---|
20 | 20 | | paratrooper; he was beloved for his cheerful attitude that lifted |
---|
21 | 21 | | the spirits of all the other members of his platoon; and |
---|
22 | 22 | | WHEREAS, Americans owe a profound debt to our nation's |
---|
23 | 23 | | servicemen and servicewomen, whose courageous efforts and enormous |
---|
24 | 24 | | sacrifices are deserving of their fellow citizens' deepest respect |
---|
25 | 25 | | and gratitude; through his unwavering dedication to duty and honor, |
---|
26 | 26 | | C. J. West embodied the highest ideals of the United States armed |
---|
27 | 27 | | forces, and memories of his love and friendship will forever be |
---|
28 | 28 | | cherished by all those who held him dear; now, therefore, be it |
---|
29 | 29 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas |

30 | 30 | | Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of U.S. Army Corporal |
