55 WHEREAS, The family and friends of U.S. Army Corporal
66 Christopher J. West of Arlington suffered an immeasurable loss with
77 the death of this valiant soldier on February 4, 2008, at the age of
88 26; and
99 WHEREAS, Assigned to the 1st Squadron, 73rd Cavalry Regiment,
1010 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 82nd Airborne Division, based at Fort
1111 Bragg, North Carolina, Corporal West lost his life while bravely
1212 serving his country in Iraq; and
1313 WHEREAS, C. J. West graduated from Bowie High School in 2000
1414 and went on to earn his bachelor's degree in marketing with honors
1515 from Texas A&M University; he became the fifth generation of his
1616 family to serve in the U.S. Army when he joined the military in
1717 2007; highly decorated for his service, he earned the Bronze Star
1818 Medal, the Purple Heart, and many other honors; and
1919 WHEREAS, Corporal West served as a combat medic and a
2020 paratrooper; he was beloved for his cheerful attitude that lifted
2121 the spirits of all the other members of his platoon; and
2222 WHEREAS, Americans owe a profound debt to our nation's
2323 servicemen and servicewomen, whose courageous efforts and enormous
2424 sacrifices are deserving of their fellow citizens' deepest respect
2525 and gratitude; through his unwavering dedication to duty and honor,
2626 C. J. West embodied the highest ideals of the United States armed
2727 forces, and memories of his love and friendship will forever be
2828 cherished by all those who held him dear; now, therefore, be it
2929 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas
3030 Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of U.S. Army Corporal
3131 Christopher J. West and extend sincere sympathy to the members of
3232 his family: to his parents, John and Hattie West; to his sisters,
3333 Lauren West and Cameron West Wade and her husband, Justin; to his
3434 grandmother, Betty West; to his grandfather Lt. Col. (ret.) Kenneth
3535 Lee West and his wife, Earlene; to his niece, Charlie Anne Wade; to
3636 his godmother, Magi Louise Brettler; and to his other relatives and
3737 many friends; and, be it further
3838 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
3939 prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of
4040 Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Corporal
4141 Christopher J. West.
