 R E S O L U T I O N
 WHEREAS, The family and friends of U.S. Army Corporal
 Christopher J. West of Arlington suffered an immeasurable loss with
 the death of this valiant soldier on February 4, 2008, at the age of
 26; and
 WHEREAS, Assigned to the 1st Squadron, 73rd Cavalry Regiment,
 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 82nd Airborne Division, based at Fort
 Bragg, North Carolina, Corporal West lost his life while bravely
 serving his country in Iraq; and
 WHEREAS, C. J. West graduated from Bowie High School in 2000
 and went on to earn his bachelor's degree in marketing with honors
 from Texas A&M University; he became the fifth generation of his
 family to serve in the U.S. Army when he joined the military in
 2007; highly decorated for his service, he earned the Bronze Star
 Medal, the Purple Heart, and many other honors; and
 WHEREAS, Corporal West served as a combat medic and a
 paratrooper; he was beloved for his cheerful attitude that lifted
 the spirits of all the other members of his platoon; and
 WHEREAS, Americans owe a profound debt to our nation's
 servicemen and servicewomen, whose courageous efforts and enormous
 sacrifices are deserving of their fellow citizens' deepest respect
 and gratitude; through his unwavering dedication to duty and honor,
 C. J. West embodied the highest ideals of the United States armed
 forces, and memories of his love and friendship will forever be
 cherished by all those who held him dear; now, therefore, be it
 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas
 Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of U.S. Army Corporal
 Christopher J. West and extend sincere sympathy to the members of
 his family: to his parents, John and Hattie West; to his sisters,
 Lauren West and Cameron West Wade and her husband, Justin; to his
 grandmother, Betty West; to his grandfather Lt. Col. (ret.) Kenneth
 Lee West and his wife, Earlene; to his niece, Charlie Anne Wade; to
 his godmother, Magi Louise Brettler; and to his other relatives and
 many friends; and, be it further
 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
 prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of
 Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Corporal
 Christopher J. West.
