9 | 9 | | WHEREAS, Assigned to the 3rd Assault Amphibian Battalion, 1st |

10 | 10 | | Marine Division, 1st Marine Expeditionary Force, out of Camp |

11 | 11 | | Pendleton, California, Staff Sergeant Stock was killed while |
---|
12 | 12 | | conducting combat operations in Anbar Province, Iraq; and |

13 | 13 | | WHEREAS, Sergeant Stock's medals and commendations included |
---|
14 | 14 | | the Purple Heart, the Combat Action Ribbon, the National Defense |
---|
15 | 15 | | Service Medal, the Iraq Campaign Medal, the Global War on Terrorism |

16 | 16 | | Service Medal, the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal, and the |

17 | 17 | | Sea Service Deployment Ribbon; and |

18 | 18 | | WHEREAS, John Stock was born in Longview on February 26, |

19 | 19 | | 1981, to Gwen and Jerry Stock; an Eagle Scout, he was a graduate of |

20 | 20 | | Longview High School, where he distinguished himself as a member of |

21 | 21 | | the varsity swim team and as a soccer player; and |
---|
22 | 22 | | WHEREAS, A devoted husband and father, Sergeant Stock often |
---|
23 | 23 | | talked about his family with his fellow Marines; he had an |
---|
24 | 24 | | adventurous spirit and enjoyed kayaking, white water rafting, and |
---|
25 | 25 | | mountain climbing; true to his East Texas roots, he loved country |
---|
26 | 26 | | music, barbecue, and hot sauce; and |
---|
27 | 27 | | WHEREAS, Exemplifying the highest ideals of the U.S. armed |
---|
28 | 28 | | forces, John Stock inspired others with his courage and fortitude, |
---|
29 | 29 | | and although he is deeply missed, those who loved him will forever |
---|
30 | 30 | | carry his memory close in their hearts; now, therefore, be it |
---|
31 | 31 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas |

32 | 32 | | Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Staff Sergeant John |
