55 WHEREAS, The family and friends of U.S. Marine Corps Staff
66 Sergeant John C. Stock suffered an immeasurable loss with the death
77 of this outstanding young man in Iraq on September 6, 2007, at the
88 age of 26; and
99 WHEREAS, Assigned to the 3rd Assault Amphibian Battalion, 1st
1010 Marine Division, 1st Marine Expeditionary Force, out of Camp
1111 Pendleton, California, Staff Sergeant Stock was killed while
1212 conducting combat operations in Anbar Province, Iraq; and
1313 WHEREAS, Sergeant Stock's medals and commendations included
1414 the Purple Heart, the Combat Action Ribbon, the National Defense
1515 Service Medal, the Iraq Campaign Medal, the Global War on Terrorism
1616 Service Medal, the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal, and the
1717 Sea Service Deployment Ribbon; and
1818 WHEREAS, John Stock was born in Longview on February 26,
1919 1981, to Gwen and Jerry Stock; an Eagle Scout, he was a graduate of
2020 Longview High School, where he distinguished himself as a member of
2121 the varsity swim team and as a soccer player; and
2222 WHEREAS, A devoted husband and father, Sergeant Stock often
2323 talked about his family with his fellow Marines; he had an
2424 adventurous spirit and enjoyed kayaking, white water rafting, and
2525 mountain climbing; true to his East Texas roots, he loved country
2626 music, barbecue, and hot sauce; and
2727 WHEREAS, Exemplifying the highest ideals of the U.S. armed
2828 forces, John Stock inspired others with his courage and fortitude,
2929 and although he is deeply missed, those who loved him will forever
3030 carry his memory close in their hearts; now, therefore, be it
3131 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas
3232 Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Staff Sergeant John
3333 Stock and extend sincere condolences to the members of his family:
3434 to his wife, Lindsey; to his sons, Levin Still and Wyatt Stock; to
3535 his parents, Gwen and Jerry Stock; to his brother, Tony Stock; to
3636 his sisters, Megan Palla, Erin Barnes, Clara Stock, and Lily Stock;
3737 to his grandparents, Gerald and Jeannette Stock; to his
3838 mother-in-law and father-in-law, Buddy and Karen Tyner; and to his
3939 other relatives and friends; and, be it further
4040 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
4141 prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of
4242 Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of John C.
4343 Stock.
