H.R. No. 2582 R E S O L U T I O N WHEREAS, The family and friends of U.S. Marine Corps Staff Sergeant John C. Stock suffered an immeasurable loss with the death of this outstanding young man in Iraq on September 6, 2007, at the age of 26; and WHEREAS, Assigned to the 3rd Assault Amphibian Battalion, 1st Marine Division, 1st Marine Expeditionary Force, out of Camp Pendleton, California, Staff Sergeant Stock was killed while conducting combat operations in Anbar Province, Iraq; and WHEREAS, Sergeant Stock's medals and commendations included the Purple Heart, the Combat Action Ribbon, the National Defense Service Medal, the Iraq Campaign Medal, the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal, and the Sea Service Deployment Ribbon; and WHEREAS, John Stock was born in Longview on February 26, 1981, to Gwen and Jerry Stock; an Eagle Scout, he was a graduate of Longview High School, where he distinguished himself as a member of the varsity swim team and as a soccer player; and WHEREAS, A devoted husband and father, Sergeant Stock often talked about his family with his fellow Marines; he had an adventurous spirit and enjoyed kayaking, white water rafting, and mountain climbing; true to his East Texas roots, he loved country music, barbecue, and hot sauce; and WHEREAS, Exemplifying the highest ideals of the U.S. armed forces, John Stock inspired others with his courage and fortitude, and although he is deeply missed, those who loved him will forever carry his memory close in their hearts; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Staff Sergeant John Stock and extend sincere condolences to the members of his family: to his wife, Lindsey; to his sons, Levin Still and Wyatt Stock; to his parents, Gwen and Jerry Stock; to his brother, Tony Stock; to his sisters, Megan Palla, Erin Barnes, Clara Stock, and Lily Stock; to his grandparents, Gerald and Jeannette Stock; to his mother-in-law and father-in-law, Buddy and Karen Tyner; and to his other relatives and friends; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of John C.
