 R E S O L U T I O N
 WHEREAS, The members of a team from The University of Texas
 School of Law have earned great distinction by winning the 2009
 Hispanic National Bar Association Moot Court Competition; and
 WHEREAS, Founded 30 years ago to represent the interests of
 more than 100,000 Hispanic legal professionals and students, the
 HNBA sponsors a moot court competition during its annual midyear
 conference; and
 WHEREAS, Competing against 31 teams from across the nation,
 the members of the UT group presented cases and made arguments based
 on a pending U.S. Supreme Court case challenging certain rulings of
 former U.S. attorney general John Ashcroft; and
 WHEREAS, The victorious team included Cassandra Cuellar,
 Belinda Garcia, and Rudy Segura, who together defeated the team
 from Loyola Law School Los Angeles in the final round to bring home
 the national prize; Mr. Segura also received top honors as best
 speaker; and
 WHEREAS, The team was coached by Shalla Santos, an associate
 at Allensworth & Porter, LLP, and a graduate of the UT School of
 Law; as a law student, she was a member of the 2006 Giles Sutherland
 Rich Memorial Moot Court national championship team; and
 WHEREAS, This impressive victory represents the 12th time in
 the past decade that a UT School of Law team has won a national
 championship, and in the team's honor, The University of Texas
 Tower was ceremonially illuminated in orange light on the evening
 of April 29, 2009; and
 WHEREAS, These outstanding law students have earned an
 impressive honor with their talent, dedication, and hard work, and
 they may take great pride in their achievement; now, therefore, be
 it
 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas
 Legislature hereby congratulate the UT School of Law team on
 winning the 2009 Hispanic National Bar Association Moot Court
 Competition and extend to its members sincere best wishes for the
 future; and, be it further
 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
 prepared for the team as an expression of high regard by the Texas
 House of Representatives.
