 R E S O L U T I O N
 WHEREAS, Rabbi Roy A. Walter of Congregation Emanu El in
 Houston has faithfully served the spiritual needs of his community
 for almost four decades, and his genuine regard for the welfare of
 others has enriched the lives of countless people; and
 WHEREAS, A Memphis native, Roy Walter graduated from Tulane
 University and went on to earn a bachelor's degree, a master of
 Hebrew Letters degree, and a doctor of divinity degree from Hebrew
 Union College-Jewish Institute of Religion; he joined Emanu El
 after his ordination in 1970, and he became senior rabbi eight years
 later; and
 WHEREAS, This esteemed leader is the coauthor of Gates of
 Prayer for Young People, published by the Central Conference of
 American Rabbis; he serves on the faculty of the University of St.
 Thomas under the auspices of the Jewish Chautauqua Society and is a
 member of the Joint CCAR-Union of American Hebrew Congregations
 Commission on Social Action; moreover, he is a member of the
 Institute for Religion and Health in the Texas Medical Center and of
 the AIDS Foundation of Greater Houston; and
 WHEREAS, Previously, Rabbi Walter served as president of
 Interfaith Ministries for Greater Houston and of the Southwest
 Association of Reform Rabbis; in addition, he has served on the
 board of the Association of Reform Zionists of America, on the
 Rabbinic Cabinet of the United Jewish Appeal, and on the CCAR
 executive board and liturgy committee; he is also a former member of
 the board of governors and board of rabbinic overseers of Hebrew
 Union College-Jewish Institute of Religion; and
 WHEREAS, In all his endeavors, Rabbi Walter enjoys the love
 and support of his wife, Linda Walter, their children, Benjamin,
 Michel, and Aaron, and their grandson, Ethan; and
 WHEREAS, Rabbi Walter has demonstrated a wholehearted
 commitment to his congregation and to the wider community, and his
 faith, teaching, and many good works have been a source of profound
 inspiration to all who know him; now, therefore, be it
 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas
 Legislature hereby honor Rabbi Roy Walter for his service to the
 community and extend to him sincere best wishes for the future; and,
 be it further
 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
 prepared for Rabbi Walter as an expression of high regard by the
 Texas House of Representatives.
