5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, Members of Catholic Charities are visiting the State |

6 | 6 | | Capitol, and this occasion provides a fitting opportunity to honor |

7 | 7 | | the organization for its dedicated service to countless individuals |
---|
8 | 8 | | in need; and |
---|
9 | 9 | | WHEREAS, Catholic Charities reaches out to persons of all |
---|
10 | 10 | | races, religions, and socioeconomic backgrounds, sharing with them |
---|
11 | 11 | | the healing power of faith and offering vital assistance to help |
---|
12 | 12 | | them become self-sufficient; and |
---|
13 | 13 | | WHEREAS, With more than 20 locations in Texas, Catholic |
---|
14 | 14 | | Charities provides an array of programs and services, including |
---|
15 | 15 | | adoption, basic personal-living needs, counseling, disaster |
---|
16 | 16 | | response, education and enrichment, housing, food bank, health, |
---|
17 | 17 | | refugee, immigration, and social support, and last year its members |
---|
18 | 18 | | aided more than 400,000 individuals; and |
---|
19 | 19 | | WHEREAS, In keeping with the Catholic Church's mission to |
---|
20 | 20 | | respect the dignity of all, the organization operates a criminal |
---|
21 | 21 | | justice ministry program in jails and prisons throughout the state; |
---|
22 | 22 | | criminal justice ministers serve as chaplains and assist in the |
---|
23 | 23 | | rehabilitation of convicted inmates; they also help those who have |
---|
24 | 24 | | completed their prison terms with their reintegration into society; |
---|
25 | 25 | | moreover, Catholic Charities expands its work by advocating for |
---|
26 | 26 | | social justice and empowering communities through action and |
---|
27 | 27 | | education; and |
---|
28 | 28 | | WHEREAS, Catholic Charities has remained steadfast in its |
---|
29 | 29 | | commitment to providing individuals with the support and direction |
---|
30 | 30 | | they need to secure a bright future for themselves, and the |
---|
31 | 31 | | compassionate service rendered by this noteworthy group is an |
---|
32 | 32 | | inspiration to citizens across the Lone Star State and beyond; now, |

34 | 34 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas |

35 | 35 | | Legislature hereby welcome the members of the Catholic Charities |
